Via Technologies has announced the world's first mini-ITX motherboards to use a quad-core processor, the EPIA-M900 and the EPIA-M910, delivering great multitasking and multimedia performance on public terminals, Atms, digital signage and other similar devices.

Via has added to its product catalog its first mini-ITX set with a quad-core processor, composed of the EPIA-M900 and the EPIA-M910, two mini-ITX motherboards designed for use in the embedded market. Both boards feature a 1.2Ghz quad-core Via QuadCore E processor, and a 16x PCIe port, PCI, one Gigabit Ethernet port, 8 USB 2.0, two Serial ATA II ports, VGA and HDMI outputs, as well as 2 LVDS outputs. Up to two modules can be installed to complete the kit (SODIMM in EPIA-M900, DIMMs on EPIA-M910) DDR3, for a total of 8GB of RAM.

Via QuadCore E-Series processors are highly optimized, offering energy-efficient x86/x64 multi-core architecture and additional performance features such as Adaptive Overclocking for those who want to squeeze every last megahertz. These QuadCore processors arrive with a frequency of 1.2 GHz and a TDP of only 27.5W, becoming a great option for playing content in high definition.

8 GB of memory

The Via EPIA-M900 has a size of 17 x 17 cm, is offered with the Via QuadCore processor 1.2 GHz or a VIA Nano X2 dual-core processor @ 1.6 Ghz. It can be accompanied with up to 8 GB DDR3 memory, and features the VIA ChromotionHD video processor 2.0.

On the rear panel it offers a Gigabit Ethernet port, HDMI, VGA, four USB ports 2.0, COM and audio connections with SPDIF. Onboard the motherboard, One PCI Express x16 slot (x8), a PCI slot, cabezal de 24 bits with LVDS support, three COM ports, four USB ports 2.0, and an SMBus header.

The Via EPIA-M910 also makes use of the VX900 MSP chipset, and there's more versatility when it comes to processors, The Quad Core @ 1.2 Ghz, VIA Nano X2 @ 1.2 Ghz, And as a plus, the dual-core Via Eden X2 at a frequency of 1.0 GHz with passive heatsink.

On the back panel it features two Gigabit Ethernet ports, PS2, HDMI, VGA, two RS-232 5v/12v COM ports, four USB ports 2.0 and audio connections. Integrated into the board are two 24 bits with LVDS support, two SATA ports, six COM ports, four USB ports, and a PCIe x4 slot.

Dual-core option

In addition to variants with quad-core processors, Via's new mini-ITX boards can be configured with less powerful dual-core versions, such as the 1.6Ghz Nano X2 and X2 E, o Via Eden X2 1Ghz, the models with the designation "E" being systems with passive cooling, and therefore zero operating noise.

Epan Wu, Head of the Integrated Platforms Division at Via Technologies, he pointed out: “Via QuadCore E-Series processor delivers world-class performance in an industry-leading low-power package. The high performance of the Via QuadCore E-series processor makes it the perfect platform for the creation of digital signage displays and next-generation embedded projects.”
