The dome of the Warsaw Congress Palace was illuminated with the new PT-DZ21K projectors from Panasonic
The Warsaw Congress Palace (Poland) turned to Panasonic PT-DZ21K DLP projectors, of 3 chips and 20.000 ANSI lumens, for the opening ceremony of the ACM International University Programming Competition, a contest that could be considered the 'World Cup’ for software programmers.
The projectors of Panasonic had to work hard during the opening ceremony of the ACM International University Programming Competition (ICPC), an annual programming and algorithmic competition between universities around the world sponsored by IBM. Given the need to create beautiful images for a demanding audience made up of about 3.000 programmers and illustrious guests, as the president of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowksi, Panasonic projectors impressed everyone present with spectacular images that illuminated the space 40 meters of the multilevel dome of the Warsaw Congress Palace.
For this, twelve units of the new PT-DZ21K projector with DLP technology were used. (Digital Light Processing) of 3 chips and powerful luminosity 20.000 ANSI lumens, with WUXGA resolution at 1.920 x 1.200 pixels in a compact and lightweight body (62cm x 29.1cm x 80cm y peso de 50Kg), and equipped with high quality features and functions to offer high performance when displaying still or video images in large scenarios with screens from 70 until 600 inches (in diagonal / shooting distances from 1.78 until 15.24 m) and even on uneven surfaces, thanks to the geometric adjustment function provided by complementary brand software. Besides, Edge Blending enables multi-projection to create huge, spectacular stadium images, building facades, domes and other surfaces. This feature digitally composites images, eliminates the edges and joints of each of the projections displayed by the equipment so that it appears as a single large image.
From thought to action
One of Poland's best-known artists, Piotr Szabliński, created a concept for the show that transformed this historic space of the Warsaw Congress Palace into a futuristic audiovisual experience combining 2D and 3D. For this, I wanted to project onto the dome of the room to virtually surround the audience with images and audio.
To make this projection on the dome, The Wizja company planned the installation of twelve units of projectors 20.000 lumens right in the middle of the audience. The key technical factors that had to be overcome were:
• Low audible noise level so as not to disturb the audience
• Low power consumption even with twelve units
• Ability to project on non-flat surfaces
• High reliability of a product that will not fail during the show
Wizja chose the Panasonic PT-DZ21K because he thought it was the projector he needed: a product that combines all the technical specifications required for presentation in the room, with a relatively low audible noise of 43dB, an energy consumption of 2.300 W that does not disturb the audience and reduces total energy consumption, a new Geometry Manager Pro software that makes installation easier, even on complex surfaces, and continuous operation capability with multi-lamp system for highly reliable operations. It was thus decided to use the PT-DZ21K at the ACM-ICPC opening ceremony after the planning stages and testing with engineering samples..
Lukasz Nowak, Wizja technical director, has explained: “The PT-DZ21K was our choice for this event as we needed a small, quiet projector that would provide fail-safe operation.. The PT-DZ21K had all the required specifications and with the multi-lamp system it provides the best safety in the event of a blackout.”
The results
At the opening ceremony, twelve units of the PT-DZ21K (projector with DLP technology 3 chips and 20.000 lumens) and six units of the PT-DZ110X (projector with DLP technology 3 chips and 10.600 lm.) illuminated the dome of the Warsaw Congress Palace dome, that surrounded the audience and the main stage screen with 2D and 3D content. When the curtains opened, beautiful images from Panasonic projectors complete with surround sound, Real dancers and fluorescent body paints on stage and throughout the space impressed those around 3.000 guests present in the room.
