Red Bull turns to Barco projectors for 3D mapping of the Ultra Music Festival 2012
The German company SennovA executed a spectacular large-scale urban mapping projection installation with Barco projectors for the energy drink brand Red Bull at the Ultra Music Festival 2012, one of the most important electronic music festivals in the world, held in downtown Miami's Bayfront Park.
ship partnered with event and broadcast production company SennovA to create the visual centerpiece of the opening of the Miami electronic music festival (Florida, Us.) Ultra Music Festival 2012. Together they offered an impressive 3D mapping projection, titled 'Red Bull Mind Meld', that covered 29 floors outside the Intercontinental Miami Hotel with bold and lively images over three nights during the festival.
The Ultra Music Festival has been a fast-growing phenomenon among electronic music fans since the concert was first held in 1999. Extended from one to three days, this year's festival was also broadcast online for the total number of spectators to reach several million. (with 200.000 live attendees). The magnitude of the event demanded a unique visual spectacle, which was designed and executed by SennovA with the projection of Barco. Due to the multi-dimensional nature of the projection surface of 15.000 m2 of the hotel, a combination of four FLM-HD20 projectors and eight FLM R22+ large event projectors was used to create the mapping projection facility.
Tristan Valencia, Managing Director of SennovA's New York Office, Explained: “The Ultra project presented unique projection challenges, considering the extreme angles of the hotel façade. Barco projectors are always the most suitable tool for this task , since they are the only ones that can be placed on the side and work without problems when projected at angles of a 50 percent or larger, which is a must for many of these high-end outdoor shows”.
Bryan Edens, producer and Marketing Director of SennovA, agrees: “fortunately, with Barco projectors, our imagination has no brake on the design of a dynamic show. They can handle anything we can imagine, and they do it with reliability and consistency. ”
