Andreas Wienold, Vice President of Sales EMEA at the specialist in the design and manufacture of products for high definition videoconferencing, LifeSize Communications, reflects on the future prospects in this field during the year 2013.

Wienold LifeSizeThe Vice President for EMEA of LifeSize, Andreas Wienold, has identified the areas that it believes will bring about major changes in the videoconferencing market in 2013. Reflecting on the year that saw the 'stumble'’ of Skype due to a major security flaw, Wienold highlights security as a top concern, in particular for companies that use free software. As he says, especially in regulated sectors, “employees may be breaking the law just by having these tools on their desk”, due to insufficient security features.

The risk of data breaches caused by online communication services, in his opinion, could lead to an increase in the absorption of specific video conferencing solutions. This has been further reinforced by a dramatic reduction in the price of HD solutions because the infrastructure can now be hosted virtually..

Travel expenses are also a growing drain on resources in companies and Wienold believes he sees in this a continuation in the rise of flexible working systems and meetings held by videoconferencing in many workplaces..

last, Wienold predicts a decline in email usage — which he says has become “basically in a tool for people to cover their backs”- as companies aim to regulate the amount of data they produce on a daily basis.
