Christie 4K DLP projectors on the powerwall of Fendt's virtual reality center
Tractor manufacturer Agco/Fendt has chosen Christie 4K DLP projectors to deliver 3D image quality on the powerwall of its virtual reality centre.
The history of tractor manufacturing runs parallel to that of Fendt, a company in Marktoberdorf, Bavaria, where Europe's first small-scale diesel tractor was built.
Today, Fendt is a trademark of Agco Corporation, One of the world's largest manufacturers of agricultural machinery, with a network that exceeds 3.000 dealerships in more than 140 Countries.
One of the most innovative elements of Fent is its virtual reality center (RV), which is based on a 5-inch passive stereo powerwall×2,6 m., in which CAD models of various agricultural machines are visualized in order to improve product quality and optimize costs.
Hermann Fendt, Head of the Series Product Division at AGCO GmbH, explains that "the new VR system has the mission of supporting, through visual presentation, communication between different departments and divisions, to avoid technical duplication or failures in the initial stages of the development process".
In this line, Norbert Einsle, CAD/PLM Systems Manager at Agco, He points out that "an important aspect for us was to install a system equipped with the highest possible light intensity and with very high resolution to facilitate the work as much as possible".
For this project, The option was to install two projectors Christie Roadie D4K35, "since in addition to the required luminosity and 4K resolution," Einsle specifies, The decisive criterion for opting for these systems was their advantageous energy consumption".
In addition to ease of operation of the system, Manuel Kirchesch, Vicon Integration Project Manager, He points out that "the idea was to set up a system that combined the maximum image size, resolution and the highest light output, with low service and maintenance costs and high reliability".
Powerwall projection
This company has been one of the first in Europe to have incorporated two DLP projectors from 3 Chips, in this case of Christie, with a resolution of 4,096×2.160 pixels and up 32.500 Ansi lumens for a passive stereo powerwall.
The two D4K35 projectors use Infitec filter technology and an advanced real-time tracking system, projecting on a large Stewart rear projection screen. The operation of the projectors has given clear proof of reliability and of offering a homogeneous image quality.
The Powerwall is now located in a conference room, thus facilitating their interaction with the large image projection. The limited space of the company's basement complicated the assembly and the maximum screen size was dictated by the dimensions of the construction and access.
"To achieve the necessary image size and save space," Kirchesch recalls, We install the projection using a baffle mirror. In addition, Two 3KW Lamp Projectors, with lenses1.0:1, they were placed just three meters from the screen".
To provide optimal cooling, Fendt technicians set up their own system that, in addition to removing waste heat, contributes to the reduction of the volume of superfluous noise in the conference room, An important aspect of making inquiries in front of the screen.
Regarding the management, Two computers are available (one for the left side and one for the right) that control each quadrant of the projection screen, so it is possible to activate a total of eight control computers with a touch panel using a Crestron, from which light and sound are also managed.
