The Alcalá Innova Foundation together with Spanish researchers from the pediatric environment has developed the first virtual intubation simulator for neonates between one and three kilos. An innovative tool that will allow pediatric professionals to experience real situations and gain knowledge.

This virtual simulator for newborns is a breakthrough in the training field as it allows you to simulate real situations but without the risk of doing so with a real baby.

The system consists of a life-size mannequin and a laryngoscope that allow the specialist to simulate the situations that occur daily in hospitals. In addition, it also includes a system of sensors that trache the position of the mannequin as well as the movements that the specialist can perform with the laryngoscope and endotracheal tube.

The information that is generated is processed by the simulator and then recreated the intubation process in a virtual scenario. In this way, the specialist can train on the different ways to act in each case and gain knowledge and experience without any newborns being in danger.

This solution developed by the Alcalá Innova Foundation with professionals in the field of pediatrics will be presented in the 27 International Pediatric Association Congress, which is celebrated among the 24 and the 29 August in Melbourne (Australia). For its realization it has been funded by the Ministry of Health.
