Dassault Systemès' 3Dexperience Catia app was Pininfarina's choice for its new car.

Pininfarina Sergio Catia 3Dexperience

The Italian design firm Pininfarina has selected the 3Dexperiencie Catia for Creative Designers app from Dassault Systèmes to design and build a new car in honour of its honorary president, Sergio Pininfarina.

The Catia app has enabled designers and engineers on the project to produce an innovative design from an aesthetic and aerodynamic point of view.

Thanks to innovative 3D sketching and virtual clay modeling features, Pininfarina's designers were able to express their creativity, experimenting in the early stages of development with a wide variety of different approaches, quickly converging on the most appropriate form and configuration for the Sergio car.

The resulting 3D virtual model was rich in detail and with production-ready Class A surfaces, generated using ICEM Surf.

Designers were also able to manage the various variations on the concept car and experiment in 3D with each design alternative using the Catia Live Rendering app's capability. All the designers' styling features, including textures and colors, and the technical functionalities developed by Pininfarina engineers were combined into a single model.
