PNY's Nvidia Quadro K4000 card shows all its possibilities on screens at Vienna Airport
Vienna Airport has replaced its advertising system, Slide-based, for a digital signage solution where PNY's Nvidia Quadro K4000 graphics cards are responsible for providing the resolution and management that is required.
The cutting-edge graphics technology of PNY has been the option chosen by Vienna Airport to offer its advertising services and carry out the interactive art project ZeitRaum.
Vienna Flughafen Wien Airport is one of the busiest air traffic hubs in Europe, with some 250.000 flights and 21 million passengers annually. The company has developed a number of additional services to expand its non-air traffic business, which includes an exclusive venue dedicated to advertising and art exhibitions. Advertisers had large slides to show their advertising spots.
This worked well but it was a very inflexible system. Each slide had to be replaced with a new one as the content changed, which entailed a significant cost in terms of materials and labor. This is why they decided to install large screens of NEC Display Solutions equipped with graphics cards to display the advertisements in high resolution, a process that is directed and supervised by the information systems department of Vienna airport itself.
“Our department offers global services for Vienna Airport in terms of communication and technology. Our work focuses on planning, Creation and exploitation of increasingly professional and effective technological products, that guarantee the highest levels of performance and reliability”, explains Peter Kleemann, Director of Communications at the airport.
With the aim of selecting a robust and secure solution for the screens in baggage reclaim areas and offices, technicians opted for PNY graphics cards based on Nvidia GPU graphics processors.
“PNY's Nvidia Quadro panels deliver excellent image quality, even with the highest resolutions and full-video presentations. The Nvidia Mosaic feature and its automatic configuration for scripts has been one of the main reasons for choosing Pro PNY.", Klemmann comments.
Nvidia Mosaic multi-display technology makes it easy to scale any application across multiple screens without the need to customize software. The system recognizes multiple screens as a single user interface and a single workstation, Getting Synchronized Presentations.
Synchronized Displays
The most efficient public facility at Vienna Airport is located in the baggage claim area. This space, composed of 120 Monitors, is controlled by 30 Graphics cards (Quadro K4000). This means that one graphics card is responsible for powering four displays, each with HD resolution. Your resolution of 7680×1080 pixels is managed by a single graphics card.
"The most remarkable feature of this installation is that all monitors are fully synchronized. PNY's graphics cards respond perfectly to the performance expected of them.", Peter Kleemann clarifies.
Due to its particular use in the baggage claim area, The performance of the graphics card, especially the integrated hardware decoder, It is exploited in extreme conditions and requires constant performance management to ensure smooth and uninterrupted content playback.
Interactive Art Exhibition
PNY cards are also used in the company's art exhibition ARS Electronics, ZeitRaum, from the airport. An interactive art project, where about a hundred Nvidia Quadro K2000 are used. Designed for the new Vienna airport terminal, Interpret air traffic (Entry and exit) in real time.
ZeitRaum integrates multiple stations and accompanies passengers on their way to the plane. A panel one meter high, full of screens, extends into the check-in area and in the corridors to the control area. Everyone who approaches can see how a set of letters comes down from the wall forming a cascading effect. When they get down, Letters form words that make up the topography of a landscape. This original installation is also used as an advertising support for the 50% of time.
