Panasonic provides the first large outdoor 4K display to Churchill Downs Racecourse

Churchill Downs debuts at Kentuky Derby with large outdoor LED display, more than 52 meters wide and 27 Panasonic high that offers the contents in ultra high resolution.

Horse racing fans who attended last Saturday 3 from May to one of Lousiville's most popular equestrian shows, the Kentucky Derby, were able to enjoy the functionalities offered by digital signage on a large ultra high definition screen.

Taking advantage of the annual Kentuky Derby celebration in Lousville, the largest horse race in the country, the Churchill Downs premiered the great "Big Board" with technology from Panasonic and, that according to its manufacturer, is the only LED display installed in an outdoor stadium capable of displaying ultra-high definition 4K technology.

“It has been a great opportunity to work with Churchill Downs and be able to supply them with this great screen that has become an icon of the world of sport.. 4K content is the future and with this facility we offer horse racing fans a technology that gives them the possibility of a large display that shows them what is happening on the track as if they were there.", explains Jim Doyle, President of Panasonic Eco Solutions in North America.

This 4K video board from 52,12 meters wide by 27,43 meters high, which has been supplied through the Panasonic partner, Lighthouse Technologies, is located a little more than 24 meters from the ground, on the outside of the dirt track. This location maximizes the viewing angle of 170 degrees so that stadium attendees can see clearly and from any point of the circuit the development of the races.

To carry out this installation, that has had an investment of 12 millions of dollars, Panasonic has provided a display that shows more than 2.160 vertical lines and 4.000 horizontal lines of resolution. In total, more than nine million lines of resolution are offered that allow a wide variety of capabilities including large images and the possibility of dividing the screens into several segments.

With this great display, Churchill Downs Stadium may show replays, probability statistics, teletypes and the results of bets placed for the races, in addition to being able to offer advertising, brand messages, public service announcements and many other creative content.

To complete the project, Churchill Downs has installed high-definition fixed and mobile cameras and a high-performance audio system.
