Contex: Europe's monitor market is growing by 11% 2Q of 2014, especially in large format
With double-digit growth, superior to 11%, the monitor market in Western Europe in the second quarter of 2014 registers a more than positive behavior, that reaches up to a 15% in the case of large format screens, due to the high demand for videowall applications, according to data published by Contex.
The data recently published by the market analyst Context on the market for monitors in Western Europe for the second quarter of the year could not be more positive: growth of more than 11%, where large format systems take a special role in the EMEA region, with an increase in 15% and an annual average of 20%.
In this last aspect, Context attributes this increase to the significant sales of large format screens that are used in videowall applications in the enterprise market, advertising and leisure. In the breakdown by country, Spain has been one of the countries with the highest demand for monitors and large format screens, with a growth in the 112%, followed by one of the most consolidated markets in this environment: United Kingdom, with an increase in 16%, regarding the fall of the 8% on sales recorded in Germany in that period.
Outside this format, the development of the European monitor market remains irregular according to Context's analysis, since in front of the growth of more than the 11% in Western Europe in the second quarter of 2014, some Eastern European countries have had significantly lower demand, that does not reach double digits, compared to the same period as the previous year by customers and consumers.
Market benchmarks
As for the reference companies in the general monitor market in Europe in that period, Contex places MMD (license partner for monitors Philips) and AOC (both subsidiaries of the display manufacturer POS Technology) with a combined growth rate above 18%
In the large format monitor market, Contex figures attribute to Samsung the first position, with more than 46% of sales in that period, followed by Lg (31%) and NEC Display (21%).
On the basis of these figures, Agustín de los Frailes, country manager of AOC and MMD in Spain, said: "Our flexible strategy is once again worthwhile. In Western Europe we were able to get more out of a growing market than others and our decline in Eastern Europe has been much lower than in the general market.. In Western Europe we have outperformed the market by 7% and in the east in more than one 8%, thanks to our innovation-driven and customer-centric approach".
Taking Contex data as a basis, this executive underlines the positive development of both companies in the Spanish market, "with a growth rate higher than 18%. together, AOC and Philips have grown above the 60%. Philips remains in second place, with a growth rate of more than 160%, and AOC now occupies the fourth place in the Spanish market for desktop monitors".
