Yucef Merhi transforms sound into dynamic geometric patterns in the interactive installation 'C-240'
Venezuelan digital artist Yucef Merhi has transformed the façade of the central Brazilian building Fiesp/Sesi, of 3.700m², in a spectacular interactive installation, known as project 'C-240', in which the citizens of the city of Sao Paulo can participate by transforming spoken language and sounds into dynamic geometric patterns.
The project 'C-240' carried out by the artist Yucef Merhi for the third edition of the SP-Urban Digital Festival, which is held until the next 7 December in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, is an interactive video art installation made on the façade of the emblematic Fiesp/Sesi building (with an area of 3,700m²), located in the central Avenida Paulista of this city, that transforms spoken language, street sounds, live music, Etc. in dynamic geometric patterns of colors.
To do this, Merhi uses the analog electronic music display Atari Video Music, developed in the year 2006 by this video game console company, that was a precursor of the creation of sound or audio-creative visual effects.
This sound visualizer works as a visual synthesizer that, thanks to the intervention of the artist, allows you to process the sound in real time and display it in chromatic and geometric graphic representations.
Through this device, Merhi has made some modifications to transmit the video signal digitally and project it on the Led façade of the building. Citizens can participate by speaking through a microphone connected to Atari Video Music, uploading sound files using your mobile devices, or playing live with their instruments and representing these sound frequencies in real-time visual patterns displayed on this large interactive display.
