The Ministry of Industry finances 13 projects linked to the promotion of smart cities
A total of 27 Cities will benefit from the projects that are going to be launched around smart cities, financed by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism with 13,1 million euros. These initiatives are the result of the Smarticities initiative launched by Red.es.
As a result of the first Smarticities call, launched by Red.es, he Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism will finance until 80% of 13 projects linked to the promotion of the smart city, those who will benefit 27 cities.
They were invited to this initiative 104 municipalities of more than 20.000 inhabitants belonging to the autonomous communities of Andalusia, Castilla La Mancha and Extremadura.
Projects could be presented by city councils or groups of municipalities, with a maximum budget of one million euros per city. In total, have been taken into consideration in the call 37 individual and collective initiatives, that represent 49 municipalities. After the assessment process, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism has selected thirteen initiatives, that involve an investment of 13,1 million euros, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (Feder).
Objetivo Smartcities
The objective of the first call for smart cities is to select municipalities where to carry out initiatives aimed at the intelligent development of the city and the improvement of the services provided to citizens and visitors..
The call encourages the creation of initiatives that favor the opening and reuse of public data, the implementation of mature management systems that improve the services provided by the city and the implementation of infrastructure and technological elements that allow the generation of valuable services.
Andalusia: 23 cities
In Andalusia, The Smarticities call will involve an investment of 9,8 million euros, practically all of the 10 millions budgeted for this autonomous community, those who will benefit 23 cities.
The nine selected initiatives are: Alcalá the Real City and Smart Destination, Smart Almonte Tourism and Governance, Lepe Smart Tourism and Transparent Governance, Sevilla Smart Accesibility & Tourist & Events, Martos Smart City, Huelva Smartcity Route, Antequera City List, Granada Human Smart City and Smart Costa del Sol. The latter groups 13 municipalities in the area of more than 20.000 inhabitants.
Three projects in Castilla La Mancha
In the community of Castilla La Mancha, The Smarticities call implies an investment of 2,8 million euros, a figure close to the budgeted maximum, which is 3 million euros, from which three cities will benefit.
The selected proposals are: Guadalajara Connect@, Royal City: Smart and Sustainable City and Destination, and Toledo Smart City.
Estremadura: Villanueva de la Serena
In Extremadura, a total of 7 municipalities of more than 20.000 inhabitants and the maximum budget allocated to this autonomous community is two million euros for a single project: Villanueva de la Serena Smart City.
