The urban platform of Coruña Smart City, The first project in Spain for integral and transversal management of a city through technology, It is already installed and operational in the CPD of the City Council of this Galician city, With what the first phase of the project is finalized, started in June 2013, by the UTE led by Indra and composed of Altia, Ilux and Operator R.

The Data Process Center (CPD) of the La Coruña City Council, in which the urban platform of Coruña Smart City is already operational, has begun to receive data from three of the fourteen pilots contemplated by the project: multichannel events, Guided visits and electronic administration system.

This culminates the first phase of the first project in Spain of Integral and Transversal Management of a city through technology, that the consortium led by Indra, formed by Altitch, Not and the operator R, started in the middle of 2013.

Among the first services that citizens already have at their disposal are the mobile apps of the city's cultural agenda and the guided tour with augmented reality. Thanks to this, The Coruña may, For example, Receive direct information about shows on your mobile depending on your preferences and buy tickets; Design custom itineraries and share them, as well as receiving messages from the application itself when they are near a geolocated site.

The site Electronics of the Consistory Coruña, which is part of the electronic administration pilot, and that starts with the first twelve procedures. All these services will be accessible through the Coruña Smart City portal, where citizen is also offered useful information, dynamic and real time on the closest gas stations and the price of fuels, Bicicoruña stations or the state of traffic and city works, inter alia.

This initial services catalog is completed with the Open Data portal, which includes free access and use information for all citizens, With more than 130 Data sources from various typologies, In order for entrepreneurs to make use of them for the development of new applications and innovative services.

All this is only part of the intelligent city project that will be completed over the coming weeks with new services and applications, that will be crossed in parallel with the information provided from the pilots to have an integral vision of the city.

‘Integrative brain’

The platform of Coruña Smart City is based on Sofia2, The Internet of Things solution (IoT) Indra with Big Data and Cloud capabilities that allows you to integrate and share information from different systems in a simple way, mobile devices or social networks.

It is a large management center or ‘integrating brain’ that facilitates communication between the different services and solutions that make up the city's ecosystem (mobility, agua, energy, environment, leisure and tourism, etc.) To offer a complete vision of the activity. It also includes analysis tools to anticipate which city behaviors are in relation to the use of services to adapt them better and proactively to real needs.

Indra Coruna Smart City CPDIn practice, There will be smart cameras to control traffic, capable of providing situations that help make better decisions to facilitate mobility; Automatic irrigation of municipal gardens will work according to needs and not for times. Information to the citizen will also be offered to know, Before leaving home, What is the state of the city's parking lots and can plan their routes, or control and take measures to avoid the increase in noise levels in spaces where its impact could be very negative (Hospital closeness, schools, parks,…).

On the other hand, During the first phase of the project the design has also been made, Development and installation in several public parks and buildings in the city of the first gateways to connect the sensors and other elements of information collection in the city with the urban platform, Through the high -speed fiber optic network of R.

Execution phase pilots

Another of the pilot projects that are in the execution phase is the accounting television pilot. The City Council of La Coruña began at the beginning of last January the installation of the smart counters, which will be carried out in more than a thousand homes and premises in the city in order to control water consumption at all times and better plan needs.

The rest of the running pilots that will be integrated into the urban platform are: parking inteligente; Water quality and early alert system; Supply networks; Energy efficiency in municipal buildings; intelligent irrigation; Air and noise quality system; Energy Improvement of the A Potabilizer Planta de A Telva; Traffic optimization; interaction with the citizen and the Bio project.

The Coruña Smart City project, Initiative of the City of La Coruña and Emalcsa as applicant, got a co -financing of a 80% of Feder Funds, For a total of 11,5 Millions of euros, It was designed in two phases: The first, Awarded in April of 2013 to the UTE formed by Indra, Altitch, Not, Indra y R, It consisted of the design and implementation of the technological platform, ‘The brain’ of the city. The second, that will take place in this year, contemplates the development of fourteen pilots in different areas, that will be progressively connecting to this platform.

Interoperability Urban Platform (Uap)

The Smartcity platform is based on components of the Athena Platform of Indra and on contributions from the UTE partners

  • Internet platform of things (IoT) called Sofia2, which is the Integrative Center for Information that allows integrating information from multiple data sources (Sensor Networks, Information systems, Internet,…) and offer this data a common processing infrastructure, Incorporation of advanced value and support so that third parties can develop services on processed data, Available openly following an opendata scheme.
  • Ratest generation sensor and actuators platforms to measure a wide range of parameters in urban areas, with very low consumption and advanced benefits beyond monitoring (High precision positioning, People and object tracking,…).
  • Integral Urban Management System (SIG-U) Smart Coruña with WOA approach (Web Oriented Architecture) and cloud technologies, In combination with geospatial information systems (Say), 3D visualization techniques and augmented reality (RA), that allows working with a large number of variables and data, of diverse sources, In real time.
