Art+Com creates a large-scale kinetic installation of light and sound for SonarPlanta 2015
Designed by the German studio Art+Com for SonarPlanta, joint initiative between Sónar and the Sorigué Foundation, the monumental audiovisual installation RGB|CMY Kinetic will be able to see from the 18 to the 19 of June in the framework of the edition 2015 of this festival held in Barcelona.
The RGB light kinetic installation|CMY Kinetic, currently in production in Berlin, will have its world premiere in Sonar Barcelona 2015, of the 18 to the 19 next June. The study Art+Com, Based in the German capital and a pioneer of the application of technology to the art world, has been selected in this edition to produce the work of this artistic call of SonarPlant, initiative between Sónar and the Sorigué Foundation for the next three years (more information at Digital AV Magazine).
With colossal dimensions, rgb|CMY Kinetic occupies an area of 500 square meters per 12 high, and offers a choreography of primary and additive colored lights driven by five reflective discs suspended in the air and activated by machinery of industrial strength and precision.
As part of the project, the Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds has created the soundtrack for this great audiovisual installation, consisting of two themes: one taking the torrent of data generated by the movement of the sculpture's elements; and another that represents movement in an abstract way..
The concept of this innovative and dynamic work of visual art, as explained from Art+Com, "It is a reflection on nature through engineering.. A multisensory and spatial experience made possible by technology, for the benefit of artistic expression, not as an end in itself. It is an experimental work that combines different areas to give way to a harmonious experience. The mechanical engineering behind the development of the suspension mechanism directly inspired the visual possibilities of the movement.".
In this sense, the project developed by Art+Com for SonarPlanta aims to immerse viewers in an immersive experience of color, Movement and sound, thus demonstrating its extensive experience developing kinetic engineering systems. "The experience we had in the studio while developing this work inspires us for future opportunities we want to reach..
rgb|CMY Kinetic is both a sculpture suspended in space and a choreography of light, with antecedents in two important traditions of the twentieth century: Kinetic art and light art. In the piece, Five reflective discs rise above the installation space, reflecting the light of three spotlights that project the primary colors on a large screen installed on the floor.
The precise and harmonious movement of the discs, through a system of motors and cables, It is used to break down the light emitted by the spotlights into multiple different shades that flood the screen. The third element in this choreography is sound., a composition by Ólafur Arnalds generated from the position of the discs at each moment of the piece have been used to generate the score.
The Sorigué Foundation thus contributes to the cultural scene of Barcelona from this initiative with Sónar, inspired by his project Planta (a space located in La Plana del Corb, in the Lleida town of Balaguer, in which industrial work coexists, technology, art, Architecture and nature) with the aim of stimulating artistic creation based on innovation and experimentation, as well as promoting the investigation of creative languages around technology and new media art.
