'Reflections' transforms the iconic façade of the Guggenheim with dynamic projections and light
Near 300.000 Spectators have seen these days the innovative projection made on the titanium façade of the Bilbao Museum by the British company 59 Productions, which has used fifty high-luminosity equipment, to culminate the celebrations of its twentieth anniversary.
The 30.000 m2 of the sinuous titanium façade of the Guggengeim Museum Bilbao, building designed by the American architect Frank Gehry, has transformed over the past few nights (of the past 11 to the 14 October) on a large canvas of dynamic images and light effects, accompanied by sound that made up 'Reflections', An amazing video projection show created by the specialist 59 Productions to put the culmination of the celebrations held on the occasion of the twenty years of the institution and share it with citizens and visitors.
This has been pointed out by the director of the Guggenheim, Juan Ignacio Vidarte: "It is the finishing touch to the celebrations of the twenty years of the museum, The most multitudinous and spectacular event. We wanted to share the anniversary with all citizens and thank them for their support. To those here and to those from all over the world, thanks to which we have added twenty million visitors".
The experience of the London company 59 Productions, responsible for the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games 2012 and Tony Award winner, has been put at the service of this celebration to show in 'Reflections' the history of this emblematic building of the city. A project that has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the Bilbao City Council, the Provincial Council of Vizcaya (Bizkaia) and Iberdrola.
To achieve this, fifty projectors have been used, located on the other side of the Nervión estuary, which have offered a total of one million lumens during the seven daily projections, each one of twenty minutes in length, that have been carried out over four days, which was completed with a powerful light projection game (located in the Iberdrola Tower) and music.
"It is a complete audiovisual show; with images, music composed expressly for the occasion by Nick Powell and light projections," Vidarte points out. During those twenty minutes of screening, a story is told in four chapters: Bilbao's industrial and port past; the genesis and construction of the Guggenheim; its status as a cultural institution, and its relationship with artists".
For its part, Leo Warner, Director and founder of 59 Productions, explains in detail that "with 'Reflections', Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum embarks on a time-lapse journey through a climatic year, in which the seasons follow one another, The clouds pass by in a hurry and delicate auroras are reflected on the titanium plates. The museum is at the mercy of a scorching sun or battered by powerful thunderstorms. The curves and faces of the building are also transformed into living organisms: surface is transformed into fish scales, Bird plumage, crystalline facets and oxidized and degraded metal, before 'disintegrating'’ in digital particles, while music transports us to the computer age".
