Panasonic projection revolutionizes the traditional way of working and cutting leather
The Panasonic PT-VX610 allows Teseo to directly reproduce the patterns on the leather before cutting it. The goal is to accurately determine the position of the parts to perform the process virtually using projection.
Located in Grandate (Italy), the company Theseus (Tessitura Serica di Olmeda) takes from 1987 developing tools and solutions to cut the leather used in the manufacture of clothing and footwear, as well as in the production of furniture and automobiles. In order to increase production efficiency, it has implemented new and flexible technologies that allow it to adapt to the needs of its customers., that demand greater product customization.
To respond to this challenge, Teseo has incorporated projectors into its facilities Panasonic PT-VX610 with which they reproduce patterns directly on the leather before cutting it. In this way faster and more accurate results are achieved. These equipment are placed vertically to be able to project shapes and contours on the piece of leather. The goal is to accurately determine the position of leather pieces so that they can be cut virtually using projection..
In a process similar to mapping, the projector defines the contours using the digital image created with the CAD software. Instead of visualizing the prototype using video, the operator can observe the placement directly on the skin before starting the cutting phase.
“This stage is fundamental, especially because it helps to avoid the waste of materials and allows to carry out all the checks by distributing the raw material before starting to cut. It really is very helpful and is very easy to use. In addition, it is useful to project different colors on the leather and show the different levels of quality. This is also important to delineate, with precision and detail, the different qualities of that part of the leather. last, projection system helps operators collect cut sections. Once the cutting operation is complete, sometimes it is difficult to immediately distinguish the different pieces with the naked eye, as they often look very similar”, explains Giorgio Folicaldi of Teseo Spa.
Projection shows colors and text on the leather, simplifying the sorting process. Projection plays an essential role in this whole process, as it offers the operator numerous advantages that lead to higher productivity and a lower probability of errors.
“We are talking about a method that could be applied to any commercial sector, not just those who work with leather. This includes everything from leather-coated furniture and clothing to internal car accessories., such as seats, the dashboards, door linings and many other accessories”.
Teseo chose Panasonic projectors for their reliability, brightness level and optimal color resolution. “It is essential that projected images do not blink, since if the image displayed were incorrect it would negatively affect both the operator and the cutting operation itself".
The operation of the projector was another aspect that was taken into account, since they are in operation for a few 10 hours a day. "It must offer a service of the highest quality and highly reliable, suitable for an industrial environment. If the machine stops due to a projector failure, productivity would be reduced “.
