The latest works of U2 and Lamb were based on Genelec technology
Producer Andy Barlow has been using Genelec's monitors for two decades and the most recent investment has been made in the co-production of 'Songs of Experience', U2's latest album.
Andy Barlow Owned and used monitors Genelec, brand distributed in Spain by Audio-Technica Iberia, for more than 20 years, in a career that has combined commercial and critical successes, both with Lamb and with production and remixing work with artists such as David Gray, Elbow, Placebo and, more recently, U2.
Among the equipment he uses from Genelec is a couple of monitors 8030 two others 1238 and a complementary set of coaxial monitors from 3 Way 8331 from The Ones series, for use as a mobile system and mixing where needed.
Andy Bensley, working with Sound Distribution, Genelec's distributor in the United Kingdom, installed the new 1238 in the Brighton studio. "It's where I've done most of my mixing work in the past year, from U2 to David Gray and Lamb," explains Barlow.
meanwhile, the 8331 were used to prepare Lamb's last album. Both the monitors 1238 such as the 8331 benefit from Genelec's SAM technology, which allows Andy to use GLM calibration software to optimize the behavior of each monitor for his own personal acoustic environment.
Andy's latest investment in Genelec monitoring has been made as a result of the co-production of Songs of Experience, U2's new album.
"We used the large 1238CF monitors in a makeshift studio inside the Canadian Embassy in Dublin. It was in front of Bono's house, in a large room that needed all the acoustic help we could get. the 1238 and the use of GLM software were of great help in that regard. The album has been mostly made in places like this, mansions, hotels and places of this type. The only real study we used was Rick Rubin's, the Shangri-La studio in Malibu, in which there is a pair of 8050".
Genelec monitors were installed in a smaller room of the embassy 8351, who also belong to The Ones family.
Five years awarded
This family has also been the protagonist in recent weeks, as it has received the TEC Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement in the category of studio monitors. This is the fifth edition in which Genelec has received this award. The Ones Join the Models 8430, 8351, 8010 and Serie M that were awarded in previous years.
the NAMM TEC Awards are the 'Oscars' of the professional audio and recording industry that recognize the best products that have appeared within the music creation sector, Live Performances, Video Games, Television & Film, and which also pay homage to such creative characters as Les Paul, Quincy Jones, Joe Perry, Pete Townshend and Stevie Wonder for their musical contributions.
