Ocubo chose AV Stumpfl's Pixera server for Lumina Light Festival 2018
This year's event featured 17 installations including 'Colors and Forms' and 'Of Dreams and Life'. Two multimedia shows that used the Pixera media server and AV Stumpfl's Wings Engine Raw and Stage solutions for their staging.
Following the success of the immersive show Lisbon Under Stars, the creative studio Occubus immersed himself in another ambitious project: Lumina Light Festival. This event, which is held annually in the Portuguese city of Cascais, The exhibition focuses on videomapping and multimedia and interactive projects, both in urban and natural environments. An opportunity to exhibit the work of national and international artists.
The first edition of the Lumina Light Festival took place in Sintra in 2011. Two years later he moved to Cascais and this has been his setting ever since.. Every year, The event hosts around 400.000 visitors, according to data received from Cascais Civil Protection.
“Lumina is a free event, open and plural. It is a sensory journey full of light, sounds and movement. With the investment of the Municipality of Cascais, embassies, institutes and different companies, It is an event that gives this city a special identity. “It reflects the support and commitment of the municipality to offer a diverse cultural event to the citizens of the region.”, explains Nuno Maya, CEO, artistic director and co-founder of Ocubo.
Every year, Lumina is celebrated to highlight the artistic work of the shows that are exhibited and that is evolved based on the experience acquired in previous editions. This year's has focused more on interactive multimedia installations and works based on performance.
Lumina Light Festival 2018 was held at the end of last September and offered attendees 17 works of art: seven lighting installations, an interactive lighting, one performance and eight works related to mapping and projection. Two of these facilities, Colors and Forms y Of Dreams and Life were carried out using the technology of BY Stumpfl.
The first, co-produced by Ocubo and The Blkbrds & Jukebox, presents a 360º audiovisual show that explores the evolution of forms in an immersive journey through images, music and dance. The setting chosen for its realization was the interior of the Cascais Citadel.
For your part, Of Dream and Life, by Robert Sochacki was set in the Casa das Histórias and is shown as a moving animation within a frame of the building, like a single frame of a movie with different plots and stories inside. That makes it a unique experience that each viewer sees and interprets..
Two Pixera media servers from AV Stumpfl were used to stage these two installations.. Compact 2U devices that play uncompressed 4K content at 60 fps and integrate a redundant power supply. In addition, The Stumpfl Wings Engine Raw and Stage AV systems were also used..
“AV Stumpfl products are the best on the market for synchronizing videomapping projections with DMX light. This was responsible for the success of one of the best light path multimedia works., colors and shapes. An installation of 360 degrees with videomapping, dancers and live music”, Maya comments.
Cooperation is a key element of the Lumina Light Festival. Ocubo sometimes partners with other artists to co-produce artworks. In addition to the collaboration with these artists, there is a strong relationship with the ETIC (School of Innovation and Creation Technologies) and a variety of technical partners such as MSC, Renault, the Portuguese transport company CP (Trains from Portugal), Airstar, Futurdata and, of course, BY Stumpfl.
“AV Stumpfl was undoubtedly essential to the success of this festival. We have been working with their products for some time and recognize their excellence, especially its screens and the new Pixera servers, which we use for the first time. The materials and software were, definitely, a great solution for this festival”, Maya continues.
