Allen & Heath offers new features for SQ digital mixers

The new firmware update offers optimal features that will be well received by monitor engineers using the SQ console or FoH engineers working with it.

Among the improvements that Alen & Heath, brand that distributes Audio-Technica Iberia, has included a listening bus, which allows pafl to be directed to an IEM system, near-field stereo monitors or mono wedge-type monitor; switching the master fader to 'Listen Level' to control the monitor level; external entry to PAFL, ideal for communication systems between FoH and monitors.

likewise, support for SLink and Waves cards has also been included, extending options for FoH/monitor splits; wide possibilities of assigning user permissions, that allow the creation of up to 10 custom profiles; upgrading Soft Rotary controls on SQ-6 and SQ-7, that offer more possibilities for custom control; and improvements in USB recording and network control.

Tie Lines offer another useful feature for making splits, as they allow you to connect inputs to outputs without going through SQ processing. On the other hand, the new version (1.3.2) sq-mixpad app adds full wireless control over deep compressor and geq plug-ins, and works with any SQ mixer incorporating version V1.3.0 or later.

Allen & Healt has also announced a wide selection of plug-ins for the SQ series:

SQ-5/6/7 Tube Stage Preamp – It allows to incorporate the characteristic sound to valves in each channel of the SQ, without adding latència, and select the valve topology, selecting from six types.

SQ-5/6/7 16VU Compressor Limiter – Inspired by the operation and character of the solid-state VCA compressor, the 16VU captures the spirit of this classic sound.

SQ-5/6/7 Mighty Compressor – Inspired by the VCA dynamic processor of transistor array, Mighty provides optimal compression.

SQ-5/6/7 16T Compressor Limiter – Based on the sound of the industry standard limiter compressor that can be found in any studio or direct rack, 16T produces a tight, pasted compression. Offers smooth and hard elbow compression and easy-to-use controls.

SQ-5/6/7 Peak Limiter 76 Compressor Limiter – Inspired by the sound of one of the most legendary FET limiter amplifiers, Peak Limiter 76 recreates the sound of the last 50 years of classical studio recordings. These emulations recreate the subtleties to deliver an ultra-fast attack and spectacular punching, providing rich and dynamic sound to voices, Guitars, Batteries, bass and keyboards. SQ-5/6/7 Opto Compressor – Famous for its uniform and musical sound and its ability to handle vocals, bass and even batteries, optical compression is a key tool.

SQ-5/6/7 Compressor Pack 1 – Compressor Pack 1 includes all compressors of the original version V1.3, including Peak Limiter 76.16T,16VU, Mighty and Opto.

SQ-5/6/7 GEQ Pack – Deep Graphic EQs provide 28 surgical graphic equalization bands, with +/- 12enhancement and saturation dB, which can be used in the LR mix and in each AUX, Group and MTX. It is possible to use 16 simultaneous calls and, since they are embedded directly in the channel, do not add latency. GEQ Pack offers all geqs from the original version V1.3, Including: Proportional Q, DiGi-GEQ and Hybrid
