NEC Display screens help establish the 'restaurant of the future' at McDonald's Germany
The more than 1.500 Establishments in the country are being renovated and LCD screens, of 40 and 46 NEC Display inches, have a key role in this new concept, that encourages innovation and interaction.
Innovation and interaction are the cornerstones of the new concept that is being established in restaurants in McDonald's in Germany. Under the slogan 'The restaurant of the future', the best known chain in the world is carrying out in this country a new establishment design.
In the future, there will be more service, more digital interaction and more space to respond to the needs of each of the customers in the vicinity of 1.500 company restaurants. The large format screens of NEC Display Solutions play a key role in this strategic line of the new concept of premises.
Renovated restaurants offer a modern look, where customers are served at their tables, regardless of whether they place their order through an app, use one of the digital terminals that are installed or do it in the traditional way, at the counter.
Innovation continues with respect to menu selection. You can customize the order, choosing to remove or add ingredients, making sure they receive their favorite product just as they want it, freshly prepared and delivered to your table.
Digital signage with NEC
To facilitate the collection of information on offers, McDonald's Deutschland uses large format LCD screens from NEC Display Solutions. With a diagonal of 46 Inch, these display media replace the previously standard sheets of paper that had to be changed several times a day to display the menu..
Five screens are installed side by side in landscape or portrait format. Only a few restaurants, usually smaller, configuration changes. A sixth screen, of 40 Inch, placed on the side, shows the list of prices and allergen information.
“Exhibitors play an important role in our new restaurant concept. We want to use them to optimally present our extensive menu”, explains Marcel Kolb, McDonald's Deutschland Restaurant Innovation Director.
The monitors are connected to form a continuous canvas that displays the menu with dynamic content, with animations and small product videos to attract more interest to the screen.
Restaurant screens across Germany are centrally programmed by a single service provider. Content adapts to the time of day, from breakfast to lunch menu, going through the afternoon and evening special offers. However, each restaurant also has the possibility to present tailor-made local offers.
The modular PCs that integrate the screens feature Intel Skylake Series Celeron processors, that have enough processing power to power sophisticated animations and videos.
Quality was one of the main reasons McDonald's Deutschland chose NEC displays..
“Many of our restaurants are open late into the night or even the 24 hours of the day throughout the year”, says Kolb. “Displays must be correspondingly reliable” McDonald's has used NEC screens for restaurants and individual projects for many years. “NEC was in the lead in terms of price, quality and reliability, so we have decided to partner with them again this time”, comments Marcel Kolb, Restaurant Innovation Manager at McDonald's Deutschland.
So far more than a thousand establishments have been renovated in Germany and they hope that it will have spread throughout the country by the end of the year..
