Gonzalo Perez (CTS-D): “CTS certification contributes to improving the quality of audiovisual work”
The project manager and specialist in audiovisual systems design Gonzalo Pérez addresses in this interview his experience as CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design; Certified Technology Specialist, Design branch) and the benefits that this qualification offers.
Gonzalo Perez, CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist – Design; Certified Technology Specialist, Design branch, in the image above) is a project manager and specialist in audiovisual systems design based in the South of Spain, specifically in Malaga, although he works on projects all over the world.
A CTS of AVIXA (Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association) performs all kinds of tasks related to the audiovisual world, how to create, operate and service audiovisual solutions (Av), as well as carrying out management activities, in order to provide the best audiovisual solutions according to the needs of the client, and all meeting the deadlines and the agreed budget.
Digital AV Magazine spoke to Gonzalo Pérez about his experience as a CTS and the benefits that the qualification offers both to those who obtain it, as to companies, customers and the audiovisual industry in general.
How many years have you been working in the AV industry?? What specifically is the work you do??
I started working in the audiovisual industry in the year 2003. since, I have performed multiple tasks, from working in pre-sales or design, systems commissioning and even project management and consulting. In the last five years I have worked mainly as an audiovisual project manager.
Why did you decide to get CTS certification??
Certifications are a great way to demonstrate professional skill in a specific area. In the case of CTS certification, this is particularly important, since it puts in value both our industry and the professionals that make it up. CTS certification contributes to improving the quality of audiovisual work.
Having been fortunate to gain international experience in a large number of audiovisual projects, I have been able to verify that the CTS certification enjoys a great acceptance throughout the world and offers a differential value to the professionals who hold it.
I learned that, as a global industry and regardless of the particularities and terminology of each country or region, we all share the same base, that we can also employ to add value to our industry and help us stand out from the crowd..
What does CTS certification mean to you?? How has it benefited you??
The CTS certification is a way to demonstrate in an impartial way the knowledge about our activity to the clients adding a differential element with respect to other sectors, not specialized in AV, who have traditionally participated with varied results, in audiovisual projects.
Personally, I think - although there is still a lot to be done to make the certification known among professionals, as well as its recognition in some regions-, CTS certification offers professional recognition and helps demonstrate a professional commitment to our industry.
Among the many projects he mentions, Which ones would you give as an example where CTS certification has helped you obtain it or deliver it with better results??
On the recent projects I've worked on, having the CTS certification was one of the essential requirements. The fact of working with professionals with CTS certification is increasingly demanded by companies in the audiovisual sector, since it allows them to demonstrate the ability to develop audiovisual projects with all the guarantees to their clients.
After achieving your CTS, went ahead to obtain a CTS-D. What have been the advantages of continuing to expand your knowledge and deepen a new certification??
If you intend to design systems in a company, is the natural evolution as a professional. The same advantages and values that CTS certification entails are achieved, but provides the additional specialization in design.
What work did it take to obtain CTS and CTS-D certifications??
I have prepared to obtain both ctS and CTS-D through different means, including AVIXA training. As with any other certification program, it is advisable to prepare for exams. Even if you already work in the industry and have experience, there are always many things to learn, both terminology and international practices.
What kind of projects have you worked on?? Is there one in particular that you want to review?
In recent years I have worked mainly in cultural and museum projects in different countries. I recently worked on a very interesting project, but at the same time it was a great challenge: the National Museum of Qatar, in Doha. I am currently working on the Sustainability Pavilion for the Expo 2020.
