The Line 5 of the Barcelona metro once again becomes news for implementing the most innovative in digital signage and visualization technology.

If last September it was news for implementing an advertising medium that allows images to be shown in the tunnels and seen from inside the trains (see more at Digital AV), Now it has returned with a pioneering project that seeks the digitalisation of means of transport to optimise the traveller's experience.

Metropolitan Transport of Barcelona (TMB) has been launched in three stations of the line 5 of metro (Hospital Clínic, Entença and Sants Estació) a pilot test that allows users to know the occupancy level of each of the carriages before they arrive at the station. In this way, they will be able to choose the one that is less crowded.

On the platforms, screens of 37 inches that offer this information thanks to the load sensors that have been installed in each of the wagons.

Metro de Barcelona obtains a large amount of data from trains in circulation, some of which may be relevant to users, in addition to being very useful for the daily management of the system. Train sensorisation, which is already a reality in the most modern series, among other things, it allows us to know, in real time, the individual load level for each of the five cars, from the position of the suspensions.

Through ad hoc development, This information is transmitted to the platforms so that users know the real position of the train that is going to enter the station and the occupancy level of each car, on a scale of 1 to 4. This way they can decide if they want to be on the platform, in the part of the train that goes emptier, or wait for a second train. The system that TMB has begun to implement seeks to offer the user a better and more comfortable travel experience, while optimizing the operation and occupancy of trains.

These stations of the Line have been chosen 5 Because all trains are sensorized and this is one of the lines with the highest demand in this metro network. In Sants and Hospital Clínico the screens have been added to the existing Led screens; six singles in the first and four double-sided in the second; while at Entença station they have been replaced by four double-sided. The texts are shown in Catalan, Spanish and English.
