In three paediatric operating theatres of the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital Ultra-short throw projectors have been installed in Barcelona Christie Captiva for children to watch their favorite drawings or series before falling asleep due to the effect of anesthesia. This is a pioneering initiative in Spain that makes the experience of patients before surgery more pleasant.

The installation is part of the renovation of the hospital's paediatric surgical block, that has incorporated the most advanced technology for minimally invasive procedures.

The hospital trusted the company Semic to provide the technological infrastructure of the project and the integration of the audiovisual equipment, which included projectors, Arrays, Monitors, Led screens, control systems, Microphones & Audio. Charmex has been the partner in charge of the supply of AV solutions.

The new surgical block has been designed to humanise children's passage through the operating theatres, make surgery easier and less traumatic for children. It has music and a lighting system that allows you to modify the light and adapt it to each surgical situation. For example, The light is blue when you have to do a laparoscopy, but green to create an atmosphere of relaxation when the patient comes in.

The Christie Captiva DHD410S show children's series and films in operating theatres, What makes anesthetic induction, which is the most stressful time of a surgical procedure, It is a much more rewarding process for the child.

The differentiating aspect of the project is that the images are thrown directly onto the glass walls of the operating theatres, No interfering elements, and producing a shocking effect, generating three-meter-wide projection canvases in the largest operating room, two meters in the median and 1,5 meters in the smallest.

The main challenge of the AV installation was working in a space such as an operating room where only the use of medical-grade displays is allowed. That's why, In each of the operating theatres, Semic had to devise a projection booth in a false ceiling closed by glass through which the light beam passes.

The Captiva DHD410S was the choice for its ultra-short-throw lens 0,25:1 which can be mounted just a few centimetres from the walls on which it is projected, No shadows to obstruct the image and ideal for small environments. How quiet the projector is also played a role (32 dB in echo mode).

This model features 1DLP laser technology, Offers 4100 Lumens and resolution 1,920×1.080. Operates at full capacity up to 20.000 hours without the need to replace lamps and produces images from 80 to 100 diagonal inches. Highly reliable, the 1DLP engine allows the projector to be used in heavy-duty applications, Including Mode 24/7, without interrupting its operation at any time.

Two Christie DWU630-GS projectors with lenses were also installed 1,52-2,89:1 in one of the hospital's auditoriums, with the capacity to 80 people. It is a 1DLP laser technology equipment, 6750 ISO lumens and WUXGA resolution (1920 X 1200). Two other Christie Captiva DHD410S were also supplied for the hospital's training classrooms.

"We are delighted that our projectors are being used for such a noble purpose as cheering up children before surgery. We would like to congratulate the hospital for this initiative and thank our partners, Charmex & Semic, for having been able to expertly integrate our technology in such a complex environment".
