WiZink Center Madrid completes the renovation of the audio system with Electro-Voice and Dynacord

With turnkey solutions in six different areas, the Madrid venue has updated its fixed installation of audio and microphones with Electro-Voice and Dynacord systems, according to the project of Acson and its integrator Assembly AV.

The Madrilenian WiZink Center is a multidisciplinary venue that has become the reference center for events, concerts and sporting events at national and international level, has carried out a comprehensive project to renovate its audio systems.

With a capacity of 17.400 people, the enclosure closed the year 2019 with record of holding events, consolidating for the sixth consecutive year as the space with the largest number of them organized in Spain.

With the aim of remaining a benchmark, Promote Events and Facilities, management company of the enclosure, began a renovation process that has included the update of the fixed installation sound system of the different spaces.

After analyzing different market proposals, the option chosen for the audio system was the one offered Electro-Voice and Dynacord, hand in hand with Acson and its Assembly AV integrator.

For the past two years, these companies have worked collaboratively to create solutions dedicated to six different areas, including lounges, a press room, meeting rooms and the main arena itself.

While the challenges in each space were different, the ideal solutions for the sound system were obtained from the extensive product portfolios of Electro-Voice and Dynacord.

The renovation project was started in 2018 And now, in the present 2020, has completed its last stage. In total, the new systems have been installed in six areas and accesses to the main arena, that have been prepared to host events of any format.

Truss Room

Inspired by New York style, this adjoining room is ideal for holding exclusive events. It has an indoor area in which four Dynacord TS-400 units have been installed, powered by Dynacord type C power stages 3600.

In addition, two Evolve units have been installed 50 as sound reinforcement in the different configurations of the room.

Truss Open Space

This gallery, located on an upper level of the Truss Room, it consists of a diaphanous space that allows an extension of the capacity of the Truss room if necessary.
Six Electro-Voice Evid P6.2 units have been installed in this space, eight Evid 8.2S and two Evid -S 10.1, with C-series Dynacord amplifiers.

Premium SEAT

It is a privileged place to access concerts and private events. To equip this space, ten Evid units were chosen 4.2 and two Evid-S 10.1, with Dynacord CPS amplification and a DSP controller 260.

Press Room

Used both in the moments before and after the end of sporting events and in large concerts, is a room of 202 m2 with complex acoustics.

To work around this issue, the space was sounded with six Electro-Voice EVU units 1062 white and a Dynacord CMS mixer 1000.

Four PolarChoice Desktop-18 microphones and two RE-300 HD wireless units were chosen as a microphone system., all amplified and controlled with Dynacord CPS and DSP units 260.

MegaBarra

It is a space especially suitable for holding medium-format events, for which it has 600 m2, which are divided into three cores with a large bar that runs along the entire side of the space.

It has an endowment of eight Evid-S units 8.2 and four Evid-S 10.1 and C-series Dynacord amplifiers.

Arena Pavilion

Located at the height +45 of the sand are located the boxes or VIP areas, who have a spectacular view of the playing field and, in the case of shows and concerts, that of the stage.

The objective of the design of the sound system for this area was to offer a sound response of the highest quality, with small speakers. Sixteen Dynacord VL262 units were installed, with eight SUB 112 and amplifiers of the same brand of the C series.

All areas are prepared for a local disconnection for private events, as well as to receive audio through the Dante network that is being deployed in the stadium.

Arena space and reinforcement of the main ring

In the sound of the Arena space, several levels of complexity had to be analyzed.. The first was that no element could be hung on the ceiling., since all the points of the structure were used for the different types of events that are carried out.

The system is mainly used for basketball games and as a complement to the public address system and notices at concerts..

Secondly, the order of execution had to be analysed, since first an initial phase would be carried out to replace the speakers of the first level, which included the remodeling of the installation of all Led screens.

As a third point, a detailed study of the grandstand area of the Arena had to be carried out, since they are asymmetrical and it was essential to analyze the possibility of having different types of coverage, there are areas between them that should not be covered. To this end, several electroacoustic simulations were carried out with the current screen system and with the shapes and size of the new system..

In the first phase, the line of speakers that sound the first level of stands was replaced. (the closest to the track) using eight EVH 1152D/64 units, in horizontal arrays of two units amplified by eight IPX channels 5:4.

After installation, intelligibility and frequency response measurements were also performed. Finally it was possible to integrate the amplification in the same structure of the screens, reducing the length of the cable between amplifier and speaker.

On the other hand, through Dynacord's Sonicue and Iris-Net software you can currently control and monitor the system, thus reducing the times in weekly preventive maintenance.

Once the Led screens have been replaced, the audio installation has been completed with eighteen EVH 1152D units of Electro-Voice in the video scoreboard to cover the three levels of stands of the WiZink Center.

In the shaded areas of the third level, ten units of the EVF-1152D model have been installed to increase intelligibility and improve the sound of the space. This entire system has been amplified with twenty-eight IPX channels 5:4 with redundant OCA network through two fiber optic rings.
