VYE, Clair Global and Genetic redefine the experience of live shows
To achieve this, have created a virtual space where artists can reconnect with their live followers, monetize streaming and start acting again. The Elation and ADJ teams have been instrumental in carrying out this project.
The producers of live shows VYE have collaborated with Clair Global and Genetic Productions, now part of PTP Live, to create a pay-per-view performance space at Clair Global's Nashville facility. The goal is to redefine the experience of live shows.
“We wanted to give fans everything they are used to seeing at a concert. With moving lights, videowall... and combine it with high-quality video streaming and a multi-camera setup “, says VYE's Danny Zacharias. As responsible for the lighting design, he used the technology of Elation Professional and its sister company's solutions ADJ.
VYE is a producer of turnkey professional virtual events that can be viewed from anywhere. That company is in charge of ticket sales, Streaming and production, thanks to its strategic partnerships, to the studio, equipment and human resources.
“This was a plan that was started before the pandemic, but at the beginning of the 2020 We change our strategy and adapt it. Everyone is trying to figure out how to deliver an experience now that it's so difficult to hold a traditional live event. One of the things we wanted to do was help artists monetize streaming and start performing again to get their teams back to work and connect with their fans”.
Zacharias worked with Genetic Productions to secure the lights and video equipment while Clair Global's audio specialists provided the space, manage the audio and backend of the Internet, needed to support a streaming space.
The Elation and ADJ lighting team, as well as the video, It's a professional setup that suggests a look on the road, but it works and looks good for streaming. “Much of the design and placement of the fixtures is there to fill the space for different aspects of the camera”, Zacharias says. “From the different angles we shot we wanted solid light, in the background and with interesting rays and textures, But we didn't want to dominate everything in the room.”
As touring professionals don't know the ins and outs of lighting, of emissions, the cameras used and the color temperature requirements, Darien Koop, programmer and project lighting manager, He lent his expertise in broadcast lighting to strike the balance between a concert look and a more camera-appropriate one.
“It's a different style altogether”, Says. “A big problem you often see is live concert streams that look like a studio show. It all depends on how it is lit and the color temperatures you choose”.
The space of 11 meters wide by 7,3 is bordered with video panels on three sides and full of lighting to achieve the texture and look you needed. Although the designer says there was still a lot of inventory tied up at the shows when he started talking to Genetic about the design earlier in the year, was still able to secure an impressive team.
For the main profile luminaire, the following have been used 13 Artiste DaVinci, a moving head that according to lighting director Koop "is perfect for the space. It ticks all the boxes and gives us plenty of design options to make individual looks for each performance. Like the rest of the Elation equipment we use, it is also Led, so there is no added heat.”
Ideal for classic narrow-beam concert looks, 24 Dartz 360 they wrap the stage so that it works from every corner of the room. They also help fill in any negative space when it is used for the studio's clients.
For its part, Led CL Curtain have a dual purpose, like traditional floor lights, For low-light looks, and for texture in camera shots from positions across the trailing edge and front risers.
To fill holes with pixel effects or use as a wash for artists, from side light positions, Chorus Line pixel bars are used 16, while the WW Profile LED ellipsoidal are used as Lekos for the front light. The Cuepix Blinder WW2s performs white light effects when needed. From the ADJ catalogue, a Hex Panel IPs has been chosen for this project to create a sweet-looking background, as well as an Encore FR150Z white light Fresnels.
Live Virtual Audience
“Which makes this even more special”, Zacharias explains, “is the Live Virtual Audience technology (Virtual Live Audience) by Clair Global that allows artists to interact with hundreds of their fans on video panels around the room. An artist can see the audience instead of just playing with a camera”.
Surrounding the video panels in the Virtual Live Audience are small 360i ACLs that are used to give texture in the air. “We've had several artists get excited when they get on stage and they can see, Hearing and feeling the audience again”, share Zacharias. “It has been a fantastic experience and has allowed them to reconnect with their fans. Clair's Virtual Live Audience Technology, which is used in television programs such as 'The Voice', The dynamic has changed. It's as close as you can get to a normal live show under the restrictions of a pandemic”.
The lighting designer used Capture software to visualize his design. “I still think it's the best value out there and the best visualizer I've ever used. I'd rather be cautious about that than any other I've tried”. Considered easy to use with a quick learning curve, Capture allows users to virtually design lighting, the truss and the stage in a 3D environment, It can even incorporate video.
Team effort
Clair Global's virtual live space in Nashville has been a hit since its first performances aired last summer. The space has also been used for other purposes such as private artist events and album releases.
VYE also streams live virtual shows from another studio in Nashville and sees the format as something that will remain popular even after the pandemic is over. Zacharias concludes, “We truly believe that virtual shows will work alongside live tours in the future. The landscape is changing and I think there's a long-term place for it”.
