The 'Telediarios' of Spanish Television renew their image with the Led screens of Alfalite

On the set of studio A2 in Torrespaña, Data Media has performed the integration of a total of 350 ModularPix Pro equipment 1 ORIM, with the corresponding NovaStar NovaPro processing and scaling systems.

After postponing its start-up in mid-January due to the impact of the Filomena storm on Madrid, last Monday 15 February Spanish Television premiered new image in its news. the News have begun a new stage with a technological renewal and a change in the narrative of the contents.

The change is due to the need to respond to the demands of the spectators of the twenty-first century. Augmented reality is incorporated into the informative contents, 3D design, a modern narrative and graphics, a scenography and a current light and an R&D&I workspace.

The new set is a diaphanous space that allows the communicator to move freely. The goal is an attempt to grow the space of the News to leave the table and find better ways to explain content on the screen.

An immersive and minimalist universe to tell the news through a graphic discourse of great visual impact with the help of new technologies: augmented reality and Virtual Windows, that expands the studio and opens it to the outside. With high resolution Led screens and an area of 87,5 square meters.

Media Data has been the company responsible for carrying out the integration of this entire complex system of Led screens that has been installed in the new set of the News of Spanish Television in the A2 studio of Torrespaña (Madrid).

For this project, the Corporation has opted for solutions of the highest range of Alfalite, a Spanish company with more than twenty years of experience in the sector, along with NovaStar.

In total, a total of four screens of different lengths have been installed (4, 7, 9 and 15 metre) with a height of 2,5 metre. The largest has a length of 14 meters and a total resolution of 9.830.400 Pixels (7.680×1,280). The total surface of the screens installed on this set is about 90 m2, with a total of 350 ModularPix Pro systems 1 Alfalite ORIM and its corresponding NovaPro processing and scaling systems from NovaStar.

The ModularPix Pro P1 ORIM cabinet is mounted on an aluminum chassis, which confers greater precision and robustness in the assembly. PowerBox includes a power supply designed by Alfalite, allowing maximum reliability and optimization of energy existing in the market by working below the energy requirement demanded by the panel.

The pixel pitch is 1,95 Mm, composed of RGB 3 in an MDS. The pixel density reaches 262.144 pix/m2. The resolution of each panel is 256×256 pixels, since it is composed of four modules of 128×128 pixels. The dimensions of each panel are 500×500 Mm (250×250 mm each module). In addition to possessing an excellent refresh rate of 3.900 hz, a luminosity of 1.800 cd/m² and a high contrast of 5.000:1 (grayscale of 16 Bit).

In addition to a large brightness and color calibration system with a scale capable of reproducing more than 281 trillions of colors, the color temperature is automatically adjustable with a range of 3.200 to 10.000 K. With an estimated life of 100.000 hours is a great silent solution, since its design does not need fans for cooling.

All the screens have a robust structure to support the weight and dimensions and has been equipped with a complete electrical distribution system that allows to sectorize and balance the consumption of the same, while ensuring protection from any problems.

ORIM Technology

As an innovative fact of these screens is that they have ORIM technology, consisting of layers of optical resins, that give robustness to the screen and improve its optical properties giving a greater angle of view without reducing brightness or contrast.

It is an optical injection of resin in the LeDs that allows greater precision between modules (<0,02 Mm) and the horizontal and vertical viewing angle is optimized (in 175º), in addition to increasing protection with antistatic electricity (Esd>10Kv). All this with a great protection against shocks, water and fire (U94-0 standard).

Rafael Zapardiel, of the Media Data Sales department, highlights that "for this demanding project, we have not hesitated to continue betting on the technology of Alfalite and its ModularPix Pro 1, that have already provided an excellent solution to the needs that were presented in the different sets of RTVE, now providing a system of visualization and scenography that, in one case, goes up to 8K horizontal resolution. The best visual solution for a clear preview of the contents during the broadcast of the RTVE news".

Processing and scaling

The image processing and scaling system is composed of NovaPro UHD, that integrates video processing, the shipment to Led screens with a resolution of up to 3,840×2,160 and the control system in a single product.

NovaPro UHD has multiple inputs and 4K sending capability. Thanks to the powerful and intuitive software, allows the management of all signal inputs up to 6 Layers, what makes Novapro UHD an ideal team for live events.

With direct outputs for Integrated Led display, failures are minimized. Independent two-layer processing also allows for seamless special effects change. By being compatible with remote operation or wiring, a PC or mobile device can be used to control the system, which adds convenience for the user.

The entire installation has been carried out without interrupting the production of the news, being necessary an exhaustive planning and a relevant deployment of important human and technical resources that will guarantee the continuity of the Telediario.
