The Teatro de la Maestranza relies on d&b audio for your new permanent PA system
This cultural reference of Seville now has the V Series and ArrayProcessing of this manufacturer to eliminate reflections and create a uniform sound coverage.
Opened in 1991 and affectionately known by the natives as 'Magefesa' by the shape of the building that houses it, reminiscent of a pressure cooker of that brand, the Maestranza Theatre of Seville has been incorporated on its own merits to the cultural panorama of Andalusia and Spain.
With the capacity to 1.800 Locations in its main auditorium, is one of the largest theatres in Europe. Originally conceived as lyric theatre, since 2007 has been offering a more diverse program that includes live concerts, ballet, Musical theatre, Flemish, as well as galas and other institutional events.
After years of renting audio equipment, Those responsible for the theater decided to install a permanent sound system of high quality that, chiefly, could address the problems of uneven audio coverage in hardest to reach public areas.
"Over the years we've had a lot of different sound systems in the room.. The biggest difficulty has always been to reach the last rows with sufficient sound pressure without losing control., nor produce unwanted reflections", explains Sebastián Gutiérrez Ortega, Head of the Audiovisual Section at the Teatro de la Maestranza.
The main auditorium has a linear shape, with a stage opening of 20 meters and an impressive distance of 40 meters to the last row of seats. The audience area is divided into several zones and includes areas with bleachers on either side of the stage opening., as well as a large amphitheater with two seating tiers at the back of the hall.
The angle and distance of these locations make them complex positions when it comes to covering them sonically effectively.. Technical Production TJL, partner of db audiotechnik for a long time, It is one of the companies that supplied sound systems to the theater show by show, as well as technical assistance for tours and concerts.
Their knowledge of the parameters of the theater and the characteristics of the hall has allowed them to "prepare a system proposal for a permanent installation that guarantees the desired sonic performance., regardless of the type of event, In addition to providing the theater with a solution compatible with Riders to limit the need to outsource in the future", adds Andrés Pombo, as a collaborator in the project.
This company opted for a Series V hanging online array solution, with V-SUBs in Stacks above ground, located on either side of the stage. An E6 speaker set acts as Frontfills that can be withdrawn and cover the first rows of the public. Given the wide opening of the room and thanks to the ArrayProcessing technology of d&b There was no need to use Delay.
"ArrayProcessing helped us overcome the challenge of providing the last rows of seats with the right sound pressure at all frequencies.. And we also knew that it was this point that distinguished our technical proposal from the others.", Luis López points out, CEO of TJL.
ArrayProcessing technology allows the user to apply algorithms in the system design that take into account the loss of sound pressure due to air absorption, among other causes, and helps generate a uniform hue across the width and length of the desired coverage area.
As Gutiérrez Ortega assures, "the online arrangement of the V Series, installed in combination with ArrayProcessing, Gives theatre sensational directivity control, demonstrated with our tests. Normally the room is adjusted for work to a few 85 dB sound pressure, And with this system we have reached 95 dB without losing directivity control at any time, with clarity of music and dialogue alike. It's incredible.".
The team of d&b Iberia, together with TJL, offered assistance to the theater with training sessions and commissioning of the installation. "We always like to welcome new owners of our systems with a personalized training session., this ensures that they feel comfortable using it and that they have a pleasant experience when they test their PA system for the first time.", comments Juanma de Casas, Director of EAS, D&b Iberia.
In the theater they have been testing the new permanent PA system and the response has been more than satisfactory, as Daniel Velasco affirms, deputy head of audiovisuals at the Teatro de la Maestranza.
"No other equipment I've used has the ability to deliver such spectacular results.. Thanks to the technical assistance and training we have received from TJL and&b We started off on the right foot and introduced the PA system to the public, as well as staff members during a performance by singer Pastora Soler. All the reactions we received were unanimously positive.".
