Stella: immersive light show, projection and sound in the Cathedral of Burgos
This immersive experience, commemorating the eighth centenary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Cathedral of Burgos, will take place next autumn and will be permanent, according to the agreement signed with Endesa as project manager.
Fruit of the agreement between the Viii Centenary Foundation of the Cathedral. Burgos 2021 and Endesa, through Endesa Foundation, Endesa Energía and Endesa X, signed a few days ago in the Chapel of the Constables for the artist lighting project of the interior of the chapels and liturgical spaces, which will lead next fall to an immersive experience of light, sound and videomaping.
This multimedia project being developed by Endesa and Fundación Endesa and which has been called Stella, will be sustainable and carbon neutral, based on Led technology and with a consumption of only 1.024W for a total of 15K lumens.
With the aim of commemorating the eight hundred years of the laying of the first stone of the Cathedral of Burgos, which took place a few days ago, Stella will allow to show and explain the Seo burgos and World Heritage Site in a shocking way, without getting into overly theological concepts, as those responsible have pointed out.
Designed for some chapels and liturgical spaces of the temple, Stella will offer an artistic Led lighting that will highlight different artistic and architectural elements, according to the narration, thanks also to the technique of projection of videomapping, special effects 3D and Sensory, accompanied and synchronized with a soundtrack.
Permanent, Stella will allow to know in a different and immersive way this historical reference, religious and spiritual, cultural and artistic, as well as offering a new resource to tourists and pilgrims, taking into account also that 2021 is Jacobean Year.
This immersive narration of light and visual encompasses the chapel of The Presentation, that of Santa Ana, that of the Constable, the Golden Staircase, the main altarpiece and the central nave, with the dome as the central axis and end point of the route.
Stella will launch next fall and will have two daily passes, approximately one hour long, for a capacity of about thirty people who will have audio guides in five languages.
For this project, in which Endesa contributes more than 400.000 Euros, Endesa Energía will be in charge of the electricity supply, while Endesa X, specialized in artistic lighting and digital services, is responsible for its design and execution.
New exterior lighting
On the occasion of the eight hundred since the laying of the first stone and coinciding with this date, the past 20 in July the Cathedral of Burgos also premiered a new outdoor lighting, whose previous act within the program was the singing of the monks of Santo Domingo on the eve.
After a symbolic act of ignition on the stairs of Santa Maria, the Gothic temple was decorated with this new lighting with more than two hundred spotlights distributed by the towers, the facades, the dome and the roofs.
It's smart lighting, digitally controlled by software for automatic on/off, the management of colors and light intensities that has had a budget of more than 100.000 Euros.
It's a temporary installation, which does not act on the stone of the monument, with specific fasteners for this installation, which will be in operation until December 2022.
