the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra it has seven faculties of study and is located in a strategic location, near the Parliament. After decades in service, the room, named Mills Room, had to be upgraded with new AV technology and that required a top-notch audio system. The bet was the sound solutions of Renkus-Heinz.
Often hosts a series of meetings in Mills Room, an ornate conference space with black Tasmanian wood woodwork that accommodates up to 54 people. Located in the ANU Chancelry Tower, these meetings may include even high-ranking members of the Government, making Mills Room an important location on campus.
Due to the design of the room and that it has served as a place for important meetings since 1964, the university considers that the meeting space has a patrimonial significance.
After decades in service, the room had to be upgraded with new AV technology and that required a top-notch audio system. The bet was renkus-Heinz solutions.
"Because the space was considered to be of heritage importance, we were told that no substantial changes would be made to the room.", explains Christopher Watson, consultant Alder Technology, the company that designed and specified the system for ANU. "The space is about 17 in size.×12 meters with a huge vaulted ceiling. It is built with solid concrete and a floating wall on one side. Given these characteristics, the acoustics of the room were very poor and challenging”.
Watson explained that the needs to accurately position audio in space, along with the need to install as little as possible to ensure it was preserved architecturally, they took him to Renkus-Heinz.
"Renkus-Heinz is a good audio solution for any space given its quality and when there are many challenges in an installation., their products show their strengths", Watson clarifies. "With Renkus-Heinz we have a room that looks aesthetically balanced and has high-performance sound characteristics.. No ceiling speakers needed, just perfect sound with two steerable arrays”.
The installation uses two digitally addressable line array speaker systems Renkus-Heinz IC8, located at the front of the room, on the 'floating wall'.
As part of the Iconyx line, IC8s use Renkus-Heinz steering technology, allowing places of all sizes and types to digitally place sound exactly where it is desired: at the hearing. When scheduling arrangements digitally, the sound is kept away from the peculiarities of the room and is directed completely towards the ears of the audience.
In addition, thanks to its compact size and the use of the Dante audio over IP protocol of Audinate, the speakers were installed without influencing the architecture of the space.
