Digital Projection stars in the renovation of the Irkutsk Academic Theatre

This prestigious Russian theater now has two native 4K laser projectors from Digital Projection, an automated lighting equipment of Elation and a sound system of EAW to attract the next generation of viewers.

Despite being located thousands of kilometers east of the best known cultural centers of Russia, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the city of Irkutsk has a long and historic theatrical tradition of its own. Founded in 1850 and currently celebrating its 170 years as a cultural institution, those responsible for this theater have recently completed an ambitious project to update their technical systems.

Although the Irkutsk Academic Theatre has a tradition of technical excellence, the management decided that the best way to captivate the new generation of viewers was to employ more modern means of communication with their audiences..

when Mikhail Morozov, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR of LPD, began to shuffle ideas related to holograms, the head of Digital Projection suggested that Insight Dual Laser 4K was the perfect system for such an ambitious project.

“We were the only projector manufacturer DLP 4K natives with an acceptable price in the Russian market -points out Alex Gnatyuk-. We provide you with a Titan Laser 37000 WUXGA and a Insight Dual Laser 4K, as well as seven lenses for different purposes”.

The Insight Dual Laser 4K projector offers 27.000 Lumens of brightness and 20.000 hours Laser phosphor light source, resulting in minimal maintenance cost.

This equipment is able to create additional figures and crowd scenes using a braided silver net as the projection surface., although this is not yet very common in the theater given the difficulty of creating holographic content.

“The main problem in the implementation of the project was to guarantee the operability of the entire system with 4K content without compromising quality - adds Alex Gnatyuk-. The aim was to ensure that the audience was fully immersed in what was happening on stage.".

Delivery difficulties and work restrictions due to the pandemic “also increased the complexity of the project. However, despite these obstacles, the whole process went smoothly by LPD's team of specialists”, says Gnatyuk.

“We were looking for the best possible solution for the theater, in addition to guaranteeing the best image quality, light and sound- underlines Mikhail Morozov, CEO of LPD-.
