Sharp/NEC helps remotely manage UWS AV equipment
The new project has allowed the university to be equipped with a complete AV equipment, made up of 4 laser projectors 5000AL, 6 V554Q and two CB651Q displays; plus a large format V864Q. All this is controlled by the remote monitoring software NaViSet Administrator 2.
The London campus of the University of the West of Scotland (University of the West of Scotland – UWS) has been updated and equipped with a new AV equipment that is based on the technology of Sharp/NEC.
Located in the historic dock area, this London campus is located in the heart of the city's financial and business district. Offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, management, Bless you, social sciences and music, and has about a thousand students and teaching staff. Many of them come from outside the UK, which brings a global perspective to the academic life of the center.
On the seventh floor of the Import building, London campus offers modern and dynamic work and learning opportunities. Bright and ventilated spaces benefit from large windows, coming from floor to ceiling, that allow you to enjoy panoramic views. However, what is a benefit in some cases is a challenge to solve in others, especially if you want to install screens and ensure that the content is easy to see with very bright ambient light conditions.
Given that the university's three main campuses are located in Scotland, remote monitoring and maintenance of audiovisual equipment also poses a challenge. The reliability of the equipment and the ability to manage goods remotely was critical. These requirements have been solved with the technology of Sharp NEC Display Solutions.
"We have been using NEC monitors and projectors in classrooms and high-level areas for more than a decade., with very few problems. All the problems we have had have been solved quickly”, explains Finlay Wilson, technical developer at UWS.
The Sharp/NEC Solution
Installed by Sharp/NEC Integrator Partner, GVAV, campus teaching spaces can be adapted for individual or group work, thanks to the technology implemented.
Conference rooms and classrooms have been equipped with four laser projectors 5000TO THE. Six UHD screens of the V Series of 55 inches and two interactive whiteboard displays of the CB series from 65″ are mounted at the head of several group study tables in the collaboration spaces. Finlay states that “due to the large windows that go from floor to ceiling of the new campus, anti-glare surface was essential to reduce reflections”.
A huge 86-series V-series UHD display″ is located in the reception area and offers digital signage to welcome staff and students.
UWS is taking full advantage of Free Sharp/NEC Monitoring and Control Software, NaViSet Administrator 2, that allows the management of all NEC devices that are connected to the university network from a centralized location.
This allows Finlay and his team to keep a close eye on the teams in London and anticipate any potential issues., all from the office in Scotland.
Through NaViSet, it is possible to change the schedules, modify the entries and check the use of the equipment. "In addition to, as a 'green' campus, being able to turn equipment on and off to minimise energy consumption contributes to our sustainability goals”.
"About three years ago we already used NEC monitors and projectors in another UWS project that involved the refurbishment of our Lanarkshire campus.. This included a video wall of 24 Screens, 160 monitors and 18 Projectors. Choosing to work with NEC again has been easy, with such a great distance between the campuses".
The flexible teaching and study spaces with a complete AV system that have been installed on the London campus encourage interaction and collaboration between students, which greatly improves your learning success.
