Clear-Com brings intercom to the iconic Elgin Theatre & Winter Garden

As part of the project to renovate the audio system of this Toronto theater (Canada), Clear-Com has installed its FreeSpeak II digital wireless intercom and its Encore Analog Partyline system.

Originally built in 1913, Elgin and Winter Garden Toronto is the last theatre stacked in two scenic structures preserved in the world, that continues to offer an intense and varied program of productions.

To currently respond to each work, performance and representation it was necessary to renew the communications system and offer compatibility and flexibility to the different teams.

This emblematic theater has recently completed a project to renovate the audio system for a more flexible and advanced one., in addition to updating the performance spaces with the digital wireless intercom system FreeSpeak II of Clear-Com, along with your intercom Encore Analog Partyline.

for Robin Johnston, head of audio at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre, “Clear-Com is the de facto industry standard. All the great musicals that arrive use their systems, So I wanted to keep everything under that umbrella.”.

The facility now has a Clear-Com Encore Analog system in every theater, as well as a FreeSpeak II system at the Elgin Theatre, with two strategically placed transceivers for optimal coverage.

FreeSpeak II is a full-duplex five-channel digital wireless intercom solution, especially suitable for large-scale complex designs or specialized applications that require team members not to be tied up and speak in independent communication channels.

This digital wireless intercom offers many options in terms of how to configure, deploy, operate, integrate and use the system and its components. It can operate in the frequency bands of 1,9 GHz or 2,4 Ghz, or both.

It can also be used as a standalone system or integrated with the Eclipse HX digital matrix intercom, as well as providing point-to-point and/or partyline communications, connect via CAT5 or fiber, and be configured on the base station or through the browser-based CCM.

“As all our communication systems are now Clear-Com, the way everything is interconnected is seamless and effortless," Johnston explains.. The update has improved the fluidity and efficiency of johnston's workflow and the engineers who arrive with their respective productions.. “Before this, if another operator came and had to change or review something, It was much more complicated”, Johnston remembers.

The new systems, says this expert, “will give better support to the customers of the theater, whoever they are and have the needs they have. Clear-Com's state-of-the-art intercom will serve the needs of the Elgin & Winter Garden for many years”.
