Dorna Sports uses the microphone 8.0 Concept for remote production of MotoGP

The microphone 8.0 Concept of Audio-Technica will be the axis of the retransmissions of MotoGP signed by Dorna Sports, that will address remote production and immersive audio.

After almost three seasons of numerous tests of the prototype microphone 8.0 Audio-Technica Concept in MotoGP, Dorna Sports, holder of the commercial rights of the World Motorcycle Championship, you have chosen it as a main audio component of the future broadcast of your program, including remote production plans.

The remote production room, located at the headquarters of Dorna Sports Barcelona in Spain, whose gradual introduction is foreseen during the season of 2024, include an audio control room 7.1.4/5.1.4 custom to mix immersive track audio in real time. Microphones 8.0 of Audio-Technica will be placed on the podium, the closed park, pits and key positions around the race track.

While the audio control room will remain static, on the track, the solution will have to capture the complex and dynamic audio content of the world's premier motorcycling event, while it must be practical in terms of assembly and disassembly, since there may be more than 20 GP around the world every season.

The microphone 8.0 Audio-Technica Concept is designed to be light and small enough, not just for discreet placement on the track, but so that each of the eight elements of 12 Mm. can be removed from the main mount and stored in a compact briefcase, facilitating the quick installation of a single operator.

The simplicity of the microphone 8.0 Concept is also an advantage, as producers and engineers who wish to capture immersive audio content in real time and in a frenetic environment, like live sports, have at their disposal a practical and simple solution without the additional algorithms and decoding needed in alternative surround audio capture applications.

In addition to sports streaming, Audio-Technica contemplates various applications for its new microphone design, including concert halls and open-air festivals.

"The continuous design and technical information we have received from the Dorna Sports audio team, that started with just a 3D printed prototype, it has been very valuable and fundamental to our rapid development of the 8.0 Concept. In fact, the learning gave us the confidence to provide at the beginning of the year more than 20 units to the host broadcaster responsible for offering the summer sports fortnight around the world with immersive audio from Japan", says Rodrigo Thomaz, Audio-Technica project manager for MotoGP.

Audio-Technica plans to launch its microphone 8.0 Concept during this year.
