JMC Academy offers a professional recording environment with Genelec
Recently, two of the studies of the JMC Academy in Sydney with a solution that allows surround and stereo monitoring configurations. For this they have been equipped with solutions of the series The Ones of Genelec.
The recent renovation of the JMC Academy in Sydney it has made it possible to equip two of its studios with intelligent active monitoring solutions for Genelec.
The new studies were to offer JMC students the experience of working with professional teams and provide the longevity required by educational institutions..
The studios of the JMC campus in Sydney were completely redesigned from scratch by the architect Shaun Carter and the interior designer Julie Niass, of the architecture studio Carter Williamson. Renovation required Studio A, multifunctional, and Study C, adjacent, had surround and stereo monitoring settings.
The Acoustic Engineer Glenn Leembruggen, of Acoustic Directions, specified the series The Ones of Genelec for the redesign of the studio and, with the help of Genelec's Australian distributor, Studio Connections, was able to offer a quality design solution.
Around a console SSL Duality of 48 canals, the design team opted for monitors 8361to wall-mounted in LCR positions, with a couple of 8351B straddling the console bridge as stereo nearfields. As support to these monitors, some were installed 8340to for the butts and a 7360to for the subwoofer, which resulted in an surround sound system 5.1 fully independent.
“For students to work on post-production video mixes or record a full band, Genelec monitors deliver incredible sound performance”, Says Paul Newcomb, Director of Business Development at Studio Connections.
Studio C was eventually equipped with a pair of Genelec 8351B, also mounted on the wall and that reproduce every subtle nuance of the music that is heard in great detail.
Due to the diversity of mixtures and applications in each study, the design team calibrated the entire installation with the speaker management software GLM by Genelec, optimizing each monitor and allowing users to switch between monitors and maintain precise control of listening levels in each studio.
” GLM always plays an important role in the sound of monitors”, explains Newcomb. “Every space is different and being able to automatically calibrate the monitor to sound neutral within any room is a real plus.. The flexibility to configure and store groups, adjustments and listening positions is extraordinary: Genelec is definitely in a class of its own with this technology.”
The end result has impressed the JMC team, as they can now offer a space that audio engineers and producers are happy to work in.. Studios have an inspiring and first-class atmosphere, that allows students to access real experiences of engineering and audio production during their training.
“For students, facilities such as the JMC Academy are often the first time they experience a professional recording environment”, concludes Newcomb. “JMC has provided them with a great opportunity to learn their craft using monitors that tell the truth., sonically. We are confident that your experience will be positive and that working with Genelec will become a partnership you can rely on for many years to come.”
