The videomapping of 47 metre, made on the façade of the Hôtel-Dieu to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Louis Pasteur, has had two Titan projectors of Digital Projection, as well as four speakers Turbosound.

Dole, the hometown of the father of microbiology, Louis Pasteur, has celebrated the bicentenary of his birth with a videomapping What Digital Projection has projected for two months with his teams Titana.

The project Mapping Pasteur, which took place between the 9 of July and the 21 August, transformed the façade of the Hotel-Dieu of Dole, a seventeenth-century building located in the town of Jura, east of France, in an audiovisual experience that combined the spectacle of the city.

It is divided into two parts: ‘Si Pasteur m'était conté…’ (If Pasteur told me…), that intertwines the threads of Pasteur's professional and personal life, helped by his wife Marie; and children's ‘Du Rififi chez les Microbes’ (Problems for microbes), which follows Alice's adventures, a girl from 10 years you can talk to germs.

The show has taken more than a year to take shape, Remember Denis Pageaux, from the local company Image Pro Service (Ips), who has worked with a screenwriter, voice actors, a sound studio and two graphic designers to bring the project to life.

"First of all, we wanted to reach all audiences, especially families, so that all generations could approach the life of Pasteur", Says Alexandre Douzenel, the deputy mayor of Dole and director of the show. "Secondly, there was an educational goal: we wanted people to know Louis Pasteur and his discoveries with total historical accuracy. last, with this event we wanted to contribute to the influence of the city of Dole, birthplace of Louis Pasteur, with a modern and immersive show throughout the summer so that many people could come and discover it. This projection and videomapping show allowed us to satisfy all three objectives".

To fulfill the order, Pageaux partnered with Thorsten Hoffmann, of Etha International, to purchase two Titan projectors from Digital Projection, a company with which IPS has been working closely for a decade. Titan projectors, specifically chosen for their color and optimal performance, they were installed in the same tower six meters high and arranged to throw a projection of 47 meters above the left side of the Hôtel-Dieu.

As the building has a prominent square bay protruding from the main façade, IPS placed one of the Titan projectors slightly off the axis. This means that, in addition to covering the almost 50 meters away from the light source to the destination, the projector is so versatile that it is able to map the right angles created by the additional structure, ensuring bright coverage throughout the outer wall.

The projectors were complemented by four speakers Turbosound placed on the balconies of the Hôtel-Dieu.

According to Douzenel, the visual effects of digital projection projectors made the show reach a wider audience than would have been possible with a more traditional exhibition.

"This technology has made it possible to deal with serious topics while still being accessible to the general public", Says. "We don't see this audience in museums or in history exhibitions.. This is really the key to the success of videomapping projection, having reached an audience that we would not have reached with other more traditional forms”.

"It has been a popular success that has enjoyed universal acceptance by an audience that has flocked to see the screening", concludes Douzenel. "A combination of education, historical accuracy and a great spectacle made possible by cutting-edge technology: these were the secrets of this good result".
