Sonobox equips your studio with Genelec SAM monitors
Intended for multi-channel and multi-format mixing Dolby Atmos, Monitoring Genelec brings cutting-edge tools to the studio 2 of Sonobox for your music production projects.
With more than twenty-five years in the market, Sonobox is one of the first studios in Madrid "governed and inspired by musicians and producers", to which it offers all the services inherent within the process of a musical production, with two rooms non environment, created by acoustic specialists Philip Newell and Reflexion Arts to provide neutral and accurate sound.
"The way to be able to maintain a studio and production company for about thirty years," he explains Manuel Colmenero-, It's always been about trying to evolve hand in hand with technology, the new musical proposals and the profound structural change that has taken place in the industry. Always be attentive and adapt to all these changes and never lose sight of it along the way, the enthusiasm and the love for the job".
To continue with this trajectory and have the latest technology, Sonobox has equipped its studio 2 with a monitoring system Genelec, able to provide the best tools Dolby Atmos. This recording room, with calibration performed by Dolby Labs, It features variable acoustics and clear, natural sound, Bringing together the best of the analogue and digital worlds.
As Colmenero adds, "There is a very productive interaction between the two studies. Many productions are creatively conceived in the studio 2, but they're recorded and mixed and mastered in stereo in the studio1, and then return to the 2 and finish mixing in Atmos".
The study 1 is equipped with active monitors SAM 1238A three-way, 15", while in the new study 2 Eight have been installed SAM 8220A, Three models SAM 8340A and a subwoofer SAM 7360A.
The 8320A Monitor, a compact two-way SAM active unit, It incorporates a 4" bass driver and a 3/4" treble driver with metal dome and DCW, as well as amplification of 50 W in bass and 50 W in treble.
The two-way SAM 8340A features a 6.5" bass driver and the same driver as the previous model, While it has an amplification of 150 W in bass and 150 W in treble.
For its part, the SAM 7360A self-amplified subwoofer incorporates a 10" speaker, Housed in a proprietary enclosure Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE), providing more output level with precise bass articulation and very low distortion. It is equipped with a Class D amplifier, designed and manufactured by Genelec.
Manuel Colmenero's experience as a producer, Musician and sound engineer has provided him with a solid basis to evaluate a monitor system with objectivity and knowledge.
"At this point in my professional life, My perception is that the best monitor you're always going to have is the one you know best. After testing different systems over the years, I've been discarding monitors that seem very 'clinical' to me, that give an excessive breakdown of music that I think inherently doesn't exist. Also with 'hard' monitors, with whom listening to and working with music is not a pleasant experience".
In this process, Colmenero highlights "the translation and musicality of any of Genelec's models. In my opinion, There is a false belief in their equipment that 'you don't make an effort to refine the sound because it sounds good from the start'. Like any monitor, requires a learning curve and, Once purchased, You also learn to discern what sounds bad and good, and what areas or focuses you need to focus on to improve".
As for the GLM software from this manufacturer, Colmenero is clear: "It makes things so much easier, for the acoustic adjustment it makes of your room. In the case of Sonobox, the rooms have impressive acoustic control thanks to the work of Philip Newell, But I understand that, in other, less controlled environments, GLM is a crucial aid. In addition to switching in seconds from the Atmos system to 2.1, 5.1 Etc, and have a calibration ad hoc for each of them, also depending on the listening position in the room".
The project at Sonobox "has been very satisfactory so far, and the work of Roberto Lopez, of Audio-Technica Iberia, for all the advice and professional service he has provided with us".
