Sonobox equips your studio with Genelec SAM monitors
Intended for multi-channel mixing and format Dolby Atmos, monitoring of Genelec Bring cutting-edge tools to the studio 2 of Sonobox for your music production projects.
With more than twenty-five years in the market, Sonobox is one of the first studios in Madrid "governed and inspired for musicians and producers", to which it offers all the services inherent within the process of a musical production, with two rooms non environment, created by acoustic specialists Philip Newell and Reflexion Arts to provide neutral and accurate sound.
"The way to be able to maintain a studio and production company for about thirty years," he explains Manuel Colmenero-, It has always been trying to evolve hand in hand with technology, the new musical proposals and the profound structural change that has taken place in the industry. Always be attentive and adapt to all these changes and never lose along the way, the illusion and love for the trade".
To continue with this trajectory and have the latest technology, Sonobox has equipped your studio 2 with a monitoring system of Genelec, able to provide the best tools Dolby Atmos. This recording room, with calibration performed by Dolby Labs, It features variable acoustics and clear, natural sound, Bringing together the best of the analogue and digital worlds.
As Colmenero adds, "There is a very productive interaction between the two studios. Many productions are creatively developed in the studio 2, but they are recorded and mixed and mastered in stereo in the studio1, and then return to the 2 and finish mixing in Atmos".
The study 1 is equipped with active monitors SAM 1238A three-way and 15", while in the new study 2 eight have been installed SAM 8220A, Three models SAM 8340A and a subwoofer SAM 7360A.
The 8320A Monitor, a compact two-way active SAM unit, incorporates a 4" bass driver and a 3/4" tweeter with a metal dome and DCW, as well as amplification of 50 W in bass and 50 W in treble.
The two-way SAM 8340A model has a 6.5" bass driver and the same transducer as the previous model, although it has an amplification of 150 W in bass and 150 W in treble.
For its part, SAM 7360A self-amplified subwoofer incorporates a 10" speaker, housed in a patented enclosure Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE), that provides more output with precise bass articulation and very low distortion. It is equipped with a Class D amplifier, designed and manufactured by Genelec.
Manuel Colmenero's experience as a producer, musician and sound engineer has provided him with a solid basis to evaluate a monitor system with objectivity and knowledge.
"At this point in my professional life, My perception is that the best monitor you will always have is the one you know best. After testing different systems over the years, I have been discarding monitors that seem very 'clinical' to me, that give an excessive breakdown of music that I think inherently does not exist. Also with 'hard' monitors, with whom listening to and working with music is not a pleasant experience".
In this process, Colmenero highlights "the translation and musicality that any of the Genelec models have. In my opinion, There is a false belief in their equipment and that is that 'you don't make an effort to refine the sound because everything sounds good from the beginning'. Like any monitor, requires a learning curve and, once acquired, You also learn to discern what sounds bad and good, and what areas or focuses you should focus on to improve".
As for the GLM software from this manufacturer, Colmenero is clear: "It makes things a lot easier, for the acoustic adjustment it makes your living room. In the case of Sonobox, the rooms have impressive acoustic control thanks to the work of Philip Newell, But I understand that, in other, less controlled environments, GLM is a crucial help. In addition to switching in seconds from the Atmos system to 2.1, 5.1 etc, and have a calibration ad hoc for each of them, also depending on the listening position in the room".
The project at Sonobox "has been very satisfactory so far, and the work of Roberto López, of Audio-Technica Iberia, for all the advice and professional service you have provided with us".
