Elation Combines Architectural and Theatrical Lighting for Voltaire
In this leisure space on the Las Vegas Strip, a solution has been designed with the versatile Led moving head Elation Fuze Max Profile, which allows the transition between theatrical productions such as the 'Belle de Nuit'’ and concert-style performances.
Lightswitch combines Elation Professional's decorative architectural lighting with versatile theatrical equipment in a unique Las Vegas Strip experience.
when Sphere opened its doors last autumn in the Venetian Resort Las Vegas, Another entertainment venue also made its debut at the same resort, Voltaire. Presented as a new type of leisure space, features architectural and theatrical lighting by Lightswitch design studio, who has used Elation luminaires.
“I think it is interesting to compare and contrast these two modalities, Two totally different experiences and two ways of conceiving entertainment”, explains John Featherstone, Director of Lightswitch, referring to Sphere and Voltaire. “Both places offer experiences taken to the extreme. One is a huge technological building that immerses you in a grandiose experience, and the other is a beautiful small, intimate space that offers an extraordinarily personal experience”.
Lightswitch participated in the project with environmental and scenic designer Derek McLane, regular collaborator of yours. He created a unique aesthetic for Voltaire, leveraging their expertise in architectural lighting design, of theatrical systems and creation of shows. Norm Schwab, San Francisco Office Director, collaborated with Featherstone on this interdisciplinary project.
Attendees are enveloped in an opulent atmosphere of art-deco inspiration, with plush furnishings and reflective surfaces, that create a welcoming environment. A catwalk with a satellite stage adds to the enveloping design that, according to Featherstone, consists of “being in something instead of seeing something”.
Michael Gruber, showbiz entrepreneur and creator of Voltaire, emphasized flexibility and variety, and conceived a venue that would accommodate various artists and performances. Conceived as an immersive environmental experience, Voltaire hosts a dynamic range of performances, offering a pre-party, another later and a show. All in the same space.
Lightswitch acted as a one-stop-shop for lighting creatives, providing an architectural lighting design for the central space, as well as a theatrical one for the main acts and the show La Belle de Nuit, A captivating cabaret-like dance and acrobatics show.
Lightswitch designed a device that has the versatile Elation Fuze Max Profile Led Moving Head as a key piece, that allows the transition between theatrical productions such as the Belle de Nuit and concert-style performances.
With a full-spectrum RGBMA LED engine and 21.000 lumens of power, the Fuze Max Profile rivals the 1000W/1200W class discharge luminaires. It incorporates a motorized zoom and a complete effects package with a complete blackout framing system.
“It ticks all the boxes for a luminaire that works very well with the theatrical mode and a show like Belle de Nuit“, says Featherstone, “but it also has the ability to be a working luminary for the artists most akin to rock concerts”.
In addition, in the striking design for Derek McLane, luminaires were embedded Elation Chorus Line, selected for their high performance and automated capabilities. 4Wall acted as a lighting supplier and integrator on the project.
