Ars Electrónica and Epson generate a 'wave' of 1.200 m2 of immersive projection at Planet Ocean
Located in the highest showroom in Europe, the immersive element of this exhibition around the beauty and life of the ocean is 'The Wave', created by Ars Electronica with teams of 30.000 lumens of Epson and screens AV Stumpfl, to offer visitors 1.200 m2 of projection under various angles.
Inaugurated a few weeks ago in Gasometer Oberhausen, considered the tallest showroom in Europe, This former gas depot located in the German city of Oberhause surprises visitors with the new permanent exhibition Planet Ocean, Around the depths and diverse life forms of the world's oceans.
The most spectacular installation in this new exhibition is Wave (The Wave): one Immersive projection of 1.200 m2 showcasing realistic images and animations of the mysterious world of the sea of 40 meters high, created and executed by the Austrian specialist Ars Electronica Solutions.
This large projection surface is configured in two parts: one Vertical Screen 40 metre Height of AV Stumpfl and a translucent horizontal canvas, that envelop visitors from different angles thanks to the installation of Seven laser projectors of the model EB-L30000U de Epson, A compact team of 30.000 Lumens.
As a result,, Visitors enjoy a unique immersive visual experience, with a Total Resolution of 60 millions of pixels, depending on their position in the room, to enjoy the movement of schools of fish through a forest of bioluminescent algae, Humpback whales and more.
When visitors move below the horizontal screen (Called Gaze), They dive into the depths of the ocean and even have the opportunity to interact with specific content.
The scenes depicted are manually made and animated, the result of a laborious creative process for its staging, whose artistic direction corresponds to the Ars Electronica Solutions team, in close collaboration with Nils Sparwasser, Advisory curator of the exhibition Planet Ocean.
In addition to this special visual conception, A highlight of Wave What powers this immersive experience is its Integration into industrial architecture by Gasometer Oberhausen, Europe's tallest showroom.
Ars Electronica Solutions took advantage of the unique conditions of this gas storage tower to create the impression that the surface of the sea merges with the roof structure of the room, which is enhanced by the immersive sound experience created by the Austrian composer Rupert Huber.
